Alp Mehmet, chairman of Migration Watch UK which compiled the report, called on new Home Secretary Suella Braverman to act.
He said: “As the illegal boat arrivals soared over the summer, the number being housed in hotels has likely gone up too.
“It is now costing the already hard-pressed taxpayer eye-watering sums.
“The Home Secretary must now show the resolve needed to deal with the costly chaos.”
THE SUN SAYS
THE open-borders brigade pretend asylum- seekers are no real burden.
But we now know what that burden is: A staggering £2billion a year, of which £1.3billion is hotel bills.
That figure will only climb, with more than 30,000 illegal migrants having landed on our beaches this year so far.
Our new Government vows to finally end this scandal. How, exactly?

First Dates Hotel fans all have same complaint about singleton after shock date
FIRST Dates Hotel viewers all had the same complaint about one singleton taking part in the hit Channel 4 show.
First Dates Hotel aired on Tuesday and saw two ladies head on a date together, but viewers urged Rachel not to continue the date after Annie turned up late.
Horrified at how late she was, as Rachel sat at the bar waiting for her arrival, one person penned: “Annie is far too much on a first date. She has turned up so late.”
Another added: “Rachel – RUN!! Run for the hills as fast as U can!!”
A third person said: “How rude was she being late to a first date?! It’s not like she had to travel. They’re in the hotel already.”
French maître d’hôtel Fred Sirieix was forced to call Annie to see where she was after she was late coming down to meet her date.
Upon arrival at the First Dates restaurant Annie was very apologetic, and explained that she had to get her makeup done.

Despite the lateness, the pair decided they’d see each other again and even opted to go for a midnight swim.
But fans felt the date continuation was forced, adding that the pair “weren’t right” for one another.
As the credits rolled however, viewers found out that the pair were yet to meet up since returning to the UK.
The seventh series of the show started on Channel 4 on September 6, and will continue on Tuesday at the same time each week.
First Dates Hotel works on a similar basis to First Dates.
