Halo Infinite’s Winter Update Is Bringing Heaps Of Weapon Balance Changes
343 Industries has revealed more about the Halo Infinite Winter Update that’s scheduled to drop on November 8, this time introducing a whole lot of weapon balance fixes that’ll be coming to the sandbox mode. A few weapons will be getting buffs to encourage players to use them more, while overperforming weapons will see small nerfs–here’s what’s changing.
Community manager Unyshek explains in the blog post that 343 has started looking at weapon balance in Halo Infinite’s sandbox now that players are a little more familiar with the gameplay. Looking at both player feedback and hard data on how weapons are getting used in game, six of Halo Infinite’s weapons are getting tweaked for better or for worse.
The Plasma Pistol and Disruptor are both getting upgrades that 343 hopes will increase their use and effectiveness in game, while the Pulse Carbine and VK78 Commando have both been tweaked to increase effectiveness at shorter ranges. In line for a nerf this update are both the BR75 and Frag Grenade, which will be getting minor downgrades in the interest of competitiveness. The full dev notes on balance changes and the rationale behind them can be read on 343’s blog.
Halo Infinite’s winter update brings new maps with lovely architecture
Halo Infinite‘s winter update will finally bring network co-op and the Forge Beta to the drips-and-drabs scifi shooter. While those are large, long-coveted features, a new trailer focuses on a couple of smaller additions: two new multiplayer maps, and a new mode, Covert One Flag. And one of the maps looks particularly lovely.
Halo Infinite’s PC aiming problem may get 343 Industries fix
Halo Infinite, the latest sequel in Bungie and Microsoft’s longstanding FPS game franchise, has frustrated PC players since its 2021 launch owing to a particular issue with weapons and aiming, but now developer 343 Industries, which also created Halo 5, The Master Chief Collection, and Halo 4, suggests that a fix may be coming following the Halo Infinite winter update.

MultiVersus game director announces massive combo change that’ll kill infinites, and has some players worried
MutliVersus game director, Tony Huynh, has made a habit of teasing or outright announcing future changes to the game via social media, a practice that has frankly established a strong link between the development team and the community over the past few months since launch. However, a recent Tweet has sent the community spiralling. Some, seemingly overjoyed! Others, very worried.
This change is a hard limit to the number of times you can use the same move in a combo, an effort to clamp down on “infinites”. These refer to combos that can — in theory — go on forever, unless the opposing player falls away from the blows or the attacking player suffers from a moment of input error. While current anti-infinite systems are in place, which drastically lowers the damage of repeated moves in the same combo, a hard combo breaker would drastically affect the ability to perform extended attack strings.
So, first things first, who does this affect the most? Well, certain characters have had long winded combos that use repeated moves — and yes, even infinites — for some time now. Harley Quinn and Superman are the most prevalent, able to combo players from spawn to ludicrously high percentages and even straight up kills.
Halo Infinite’s rumoured new multiplayer mode is “something big”
It’s no secret that Halo Infinite support studio Certain Affinity is working on something for the multiplayer game, alongside the continued support from 343 Industries. But now one of the studio’s developers has talked about the project, even if they have to remain incredibly tight-lipped about it.
