I played Jewel over 200 times this year, but never played beyond level 1
In my Game of the Year 2022 article and video I said something along the lines of “Vampire Survivors is my most played game of the year.” I think that might have been a lie. I didn’t consider that I’ve been playing one classic game almost daily for the whole year. While this might not be the game I’ve put the most time into, I’ve certainly ‘booted’ Jewel more than any other game this year. But why? And why have I never played beyond the first level? Sadly, this is a rather boring tale of how I waste my life to earn tiny amounts of money.
This story begins many years ago, way before the Xbox Series X was released. Microsoft runs a rewards program in which you can earn points by completing tasks. Some of these are web-based, such as searching on Bing, taking part in polls, or completing short quizzes. There’s also an Xbox side to it, with points being given for completing challenges in set Game Pass titles, earning achievements in certain games, and more. As Meghan Trainor almost said, I became all about the points.
In the years leading up to the release of the Xbox Series X, I had become a point-earning machine. I’d do all I could, activating bonuses and completing all the extra activities to amount a digital mountain of this special digital currency. Long story short, I ended up using them all on Microsoft Store credit, which resulted in being able to buy an Xbox Series X for about £50. Despite the daily grind I felt like I’d reached into Microsoft’s pocket and stolen the new console.
God of War Ragnarok: All Jewel Of Yggdrasil Locations
God of War Ragnarok often throws more equipment and gear at you than you’ll care to pay attention to, but the Amulet of Yggdrasil is actually an important armor item that offers plenty of passive buffs. The amulet contains nine sockets that can be fitted with stat-raising enchantments, but only two sockets are open when you receive it. You’ll need to find seven jewels to unlock the remaining sockets. Here’s where to find all seven Jewels of Yggdrasil in God of War Ragnarok.

Midgard and Svartalfheim – Story Quests
Two Jewels of Yggdrasil will be obtained through regular story progression–one in Midgard, and the other in Svartalfheim. Each one drops from combat encounters that we won’t spoil here. You should have them both if you’ve already completed The Word of Fate and Forging Destiny main quests. If you forgot to pick up the jewels, be sure to check the chest next to any of Brok and Sindri’s workshops, as it gathers your missed/lost items.
Vanaheim – Naotun’s Garden
The first hidden Jewel of Yggdrasil that you will gain access to is in Vanaheim. You’ll visit this realm for the first time in a main story quest, but the jewel can be found after the quest is completed. Sail over to Naotun’s Garden, just to the east of the river delta Mystic Gateway.

13 years later, is League of Legends still Riot’s crown jewel? We head to the LEC Finals to find out
League of Legends is an esports mountain, at this point. Over the years since Western professional gaming’s primordial days, it has broken through and risen through tectonic shifts in the global scene, eventually towering over the majority of its competitors both within its genre – and without. It has even reached the lofty heights required for your mum or dad to have heard about it.There’s a good chance that if you have a sister, she’s dated a mid-laner, god help her. Walking around town with a Fnatic or Evil Geniuses t-shirt can, in certain places, elicit a similar reaction that a football (real or American) jersey can. If I see a zoomer in an NA team’s merch, I’m likely to laugh at them. If I see someone in old-school Shalke attire, I’m liable to french kiss them.
But, those plates buried beneath this world of competitive video games keep grinding, resulting in Riot Games spreading its ever growing influence to new pastures that its crown-title simply cannot reach. Valorant has erupted in popularity since its release, with fans and players of its one most notable competitor (CS:GO) jumping ship and leaving only the loyal behind. Wild Rift, the League of Legends mobile game, appears to be building to similar heights, while Legends of Runeterra is cutting out its own audience among hardcore card duelists. This once lone, daunting mountain has found itself a range of familial peaks.
This is, obviously, great for Riot and its base – but with titles like Project L and the distant Riot MMO on the way, what is the role of League of Legends in this modern landscape? Is it still as important, as paramount to the success of Riot esports? Is it as shiny as it used to be, surrounded by fresher, growing games?
