Good news! Blizzard have fixed an Overwatch 2 Kiriko bug that let her teleport while holding the flag in Capture the Flag mode. Bad news! In doing so they seem to have broken the cleanse effect attached to her Swift Step ability, meaning she can no longer purge debuffs. The bug appeared after yesterday’s update and isn’t mentioned in the patch notes, so yep, it’s a bug rather than a balance change. Hopefully she’ll get back to cleansing soon.
An Overwatch 2 Kiriko glitch allowing her to skip out of bounds on several of the FPS game’s maps is still able to make use of a combo with Mei’s ice wall after the frosty hero returned to action in the latest Overwatch 2 update. A number of persistent Mei ice wall bugs caused Blizzard to temporarily disable Mei for two and a half weeks as they addressed several issues. However, Kiriko can still work in conjunction with her – along with other heroes including Wrecking Ball – to break the game in various ways, leading some fans to ask why this problem with one of the best support heroes right now isn’t being addressed.

She’s a ninja. She’s a healer. She trained in with fan-favourite heroes, Genji and Hanzo. She’s got a pet fox spirit. She’s cute. She can cleanse you of most of the game’s debuffs. What’s not to love about Kiriko? Well, it depends who you ask. Because a month down the line, the jury is still very much out on Kiriko in Overwatch 2.
Kiriko was announced for the game back in September, where Blizzard revealed she’d be the first new character to come to the game. She is part of the first battle pass, or – if you own the original Overwatch – you can acquire her through your Founder’s Pack (as long as you redeem it by logging into the game before the end of Season Two).
As a new character – and sort-of the mascot of Overwatch 2 in these early days – Kiriko has a lot to prove. And some players reckon she might have been specifically designed to prop up the new mode that’s come to the game with Overwatch 2: Push.
Overwatch 2‘s new Halloween Terror event began today, but fans are complaining about one of the new cosmetic bundles that carries a premium price tag that’s more than fans had hoped.
In particular, one of the new cosmetic bundles is the Kiriko bundle that includes a spooky new “witch” skin for the hero. This bundle costs 2600 credits, which works out to around $26. The Kiriko outfit is an ornate skin that gives Kiriko a witch’s hat and matching boots and clothing for the spooky season.
The witch skin cannot be purchased outside of the bundle. Fans have taken to social media sites like Twitter and Reddit to complain about the price of the bundle.
There being no actively updated Overwatch game has meant there’s been no Overwatch animated shorts in recent years. Now Overwatch 2 is live, there’s a new nine-minute, fully-animated short introducing the hero Kiriko, one of the free-to-play sequel new characters. You can watch it below.
Though Kiriko launched along with Overwatch 2 earlier this week, today, at the Twitch Con opening ceremonies, Blizzard debuted a nine-minute cinematic to introduce her properly.
Overwatch animated shorts are experiences unto themselves. The game’s cinematics team is uniquely skilled, knowing exactly what levers to pull and buttons to hit for maximum emotional devastation. I remember sobbing watching Bastion experience PTSD in his cinematic and cheering for Mei as she slogged through the snow in “Rise and Shine.” To celebrate the launch of Overwatch 2, Blizzard released an “Unleash Hope” video, splicing hype Overwatch moments between clips of human achievement and art over a message of hope and love. Exploiting emotion like that is…
