Mortal Kombat 12 announced for 2023 during – of all things – a call to investors
Mortal Kombat 12 has been announced for a 2023 release, according to a Warner Bros. Discovery financial call to investors.
Confirmation of the announcement, made by the company’s EVP of investor strategy, was posted via a clip on Twitter.
According to Andrew Slabin, Warner has “the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” games coming this year, each with “ambitious launch projections.”
Warner Bros. casually reveal Mortal Kombat 12 is coming this year
The difference between game and film reveals has always been funny to me. Game announcements are accompanied by million-dollar trailers, teased with reveals of reveals, and some fans tiptoe online to avoid the spoilers of a debut trailer. Meanwhile, films are often first revealed haphazardly through an excel sheet five years before they hit, or mentioned casually in an earnings call – which is exactly how Warner Bros. Discovery announced the existence of Mortal Kombat 12.

Ed Boon Says No Plans For Mortal Kombat Or Injustice Announcement At The Game Awards
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon wants everyone to press pause on expecting an imminent announcement of a new entry in his fighting game franchises. Specifically, he says don’t expect to see a new game from NetherRealm Studios to appear at The Game Awards next week.
Boon possibly wanted to get out ahead of any predictions for Mortal Kombat 12 since his studio unveiled the 11th installment at The Game Awards in 2018. History won’t repeat itself this time, the chief creative officer of NetherRealm made clear on Twitter.
4 years ago at the Game Awards we managed to pull off a surprise announcement of MK11, which turned out great.
Perhaps too great, as many assumed we’d repeat that trick for our next game.
Thank you for the anticipation, but we’re not ready to announce the next NRS game yet.🙏 pic.twitter.com/QMXsuEPchR— Ed Boon (@noobde) December 2, 2022
This reinforces what Boon said back in October. He explained that NetherRealm was focusing on celebrating Mortal Kombat’s 30th anniversary before any new game announcement. That would come in due time.
