Damon Lindelof was ‘asked to leave’ the Star Wars project he was working on
Damon Lindelof, known for his work on shows like Lost and the new Peacock show Mrs. Davis, was “asked to leave” the Star Wars universe, he said in an interview with Esquire. Word went around last year that he was developing a new Star Wars movie, but Variety reported in March that he left the project, and when Disney announced its three new Star Wars films earlier this month, Lindelof wasn’t attached to any of them.
“I was in more than talks to join the Star Wars universe,” he said. “I joined the Star Wars universe. I was asked to leave the Star Wars universe.”
Lindelof had been working on a film with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who directed two episodes of Ms. Marvel and is helming one of the three new movies. Obaid-Chinoy’s movie follows…

Damon Lindelof, creator of The Leftovers and Watchmen on HBO, used to be one of writers on the screenplay for the upcoming Star Wars film that focuses on Rey’s Jedi academy after the the events of the new trilogy. Now he isn’t.
“I joined the ‘Star Wars’ universe, and was asked to leave the Star Wars universe,” Lindelof quipped in a video interview on Esquire. But he wanted to be clear that he’s not holding a grudge about it.
“Will I get back in line outside the club and try to get back in again? Absolutely.”

Damon Lindelof: Marvel Should Make Fewer Movies So “Each One Can Be A Bit More Special”
In a new interview, writer-director Damon Lindeolf (Watchmen, Lost) says that although he loyally watches every Marvel movie, he thinks there are too many of them.
“From a slightly sort of more cynical standpoint, [filmmaking] is a business,” Lindeolf said during an appearance on Vulture’s “Into It” podcast. “It’s an industry. And if you make a couple of great Marvel movies, the instinct is ‘We need to make more Marvel movies, and we need to expand this.’ I have this interior feeling of like, ‘Wow, I wish they made less because it would make each one that came out a little bit more special.'”
Added Lindeolf, “People don’t want things to end. I do.”
