PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program finally launches in the UK – big news for collectors and bargain hunters

Sony has come forward and announced the PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program for the UK, a new-ish way to show your dedication to squeezing every drop of content, scrounging for every secret, and mastering ever aspect of games you buy on your shiny PS5 or trusty PS4. You can sign up for the program totally for free, granted you have a PlayStation Plus membership.
Here’s how it works. With the launch of PlayStation Stars campaigns will be introduced, which will essentially be limited-time goals and activities players can take part in. Doing so, in addition to collecting trophies from a variety of PlayStation titles, will reward you with points and even shiny digital collectables, which you can place in a new display case on your PlayStation mobile app.
While the collectables aspect is good and all, especially for trophy hunter types who I imagine will be showing off their digital collection to strangers on the bus and train. It’s the points that may really catch your attention though, as they can be exchanged for a variety of genuinely valuable stuff, like whole games and DLC. So, it is like an actual loyalty program, rather than just a dressed-up trophies 2.0.
PlayStation Stars loyalty program launches in Europe and North America in October

Sony will launch its PlayStation Stars loyalty program in North America on October 5 and in Europe on October 13.
Launching first in Asia today, PlayStation Stars is free to join for those who have a PlayStation Network account. While you will earn certain benefits for being a PlayStation Plus member, a PlayStation Plus membership is not required to join the program.
The program will be accessible through the PlayStation App on iOS and Android and can be accessed online. Sony has plans to expand the program to console devices in the future.
Sony’s PlayStation loyalty program debuts in the US on October 5th
You won’t have to wait long to earn bonuses for playing and buying PlayStation games. Sony now says its PlayStation Stars loyalty program debuts in the Americas on October 5th, while Australians and Europeans will have access October 13th. Stars is already active in Asia, including Japan. The program is free, although you will receive some benefits if you’re a PlayStation Plus member.
You currently have to access Stars through the PlayStation App on mobile devices if you want the “full” experience. You can sign up on the web, however, and Sony expects to reach PlayStation consoles in the future.
As previously explained, you earn rewards in PlayStation Stars by completing activities and campaigns ranging from the very basic (playing any game once a month) to the challenging (being one of the first to score a game’s platinum trophy in your region). You’ll earn loyalty points you can put toward your PlayStation Network wallet, digital collectibles (no, not NFTs) and certain products. You can also receive collectibles directly.
You can improve the number of rewards you get by advancing through trophy- and purchase-based status levels. However, you’ll have to top that up 13 months after the end of the calendar year when you reached them. If you reach level 2 this October, you’ll have until January 31st, 2024 to do something extending that status.
The strategy and its motivations aren’t new. As with Microsoft Points and Nintendo Gold Points, this gives you an incentive to keep coming back to your console — and spending money. Given that it’s free, though, it might be worth a try even if you only occasionally fire up your PS5.
PlayStation’s New Loyalty Program Rolls Out October 5 For North America
PlayStation Stars is a new loyalty program that anybody with a PlayStation account can join, and it launches quite soon. It does not require a PlayStation Plus membership and will first debut in Asia on September 29, North and South America on October 5, and Europe and Australia on October 13.
PlayStation Stars works by rewarding players who complete campaigns and activities like a Monthly Check-in campaign–essentially just playing any game–or earning specific Trophies. For example, one of PlayStation Stars’ first campaigns is called Play/1994, a feature that asks players to launch the correct game when an audio cue is played.
Rewards include loyalty points and digital collectibles that are, notably, not NFTs. Loyalty points can be exchanged for PSN wallet funds or select PlayStation store products. Digital collectibles are figurines from franchises, items from Sony’s history, and more, which can be displayed in the PlayStation app. They can’t be sold, traded, and do not use any blockchain technology.

Sony’s new PlayStation Stars loyalty program will launch in North and South America on October 5th, the company announced on Wednesday. The new program will let PlayStation fans earn rewards like points and digital collectibles by doing things like playing a game or earning certain trophies.
Sony has also spelled out some of the finer details of the program, which broadly line up with information we’ve heard before. The service is free to join with an adult PlayStation Network account, and while players can earn some benefits if they are a PlayStation Plus member, you don’t need to subscribe to PlayStation Plus to join Stars. The “full PlayStation Stars experience” will be available via the PlayStation mobile app but not consoles to…
