Floyd Mayweather explains ticket disaster and claims ‘I don’t point fingers’ after UK debut in front of empty arena
FLOYD Mayweather claimed tickets going on sale too late was to blame for the awful turnout at his UK debut.
The ring icon, 46, fought Aaron Chalmers in an eight-round exhibition bout at London’s O2 Arena.
It was the first time Mayweather has ever fought on British soil during a legendary career.
But the bout took place in front of a virtually empty 20,000-seat arena.
Then entire top tier was shut off for Saturday night’s card.
And the lower tier was no more than half full – meaning the attendance was likely under 5,000.
But Mayweather reckons the ticket-selling process was to blame for the poor turnout.
Speaking in his post-fight press conference, he said: “We did this in one month – not even four weeks.
“I think the tickets should’ve went on sale a lot faster.
“My new team is still learning. I have got to take my hat off to them, it’s not their fault.

“It’s just when we fight in the US, as soon as we announce the fight, tickets are on sale.
“Here, we announced the fight and the tickets didn’t go on sale until a week or two weeks later.”
Mayweather added: “I don’t point fingers. We work together as a team.
“When you buy tickets over here, you don’t really want to spend money.
“In America we don’t mind spending money.”
Mayweather took on former reality TV star Chalmers in his British bow.
He stepped into the ring wearing the British flag on his shorts in a bid to appeal to his UK fans.
Speaking in the ring after the fight, he said: “I would like to thank all the fans in the UK.
“The United Kingdom is unbelievable – the UK is becoming the Mecca of boxing.
“Me and Aaron Chalmers had a chance to come together and we had fun for eight rounds.
“If the UK fans want me to come back, I’m coming back.”

Jake Paul’s four goals for 2022 include ‘save Floyd Mayweather from bankruptcy’ as he reignites their feud
JAKE PAUL took aim at Floyd Mayweather after revealing his goals for 2022.
The YouTuber fought three times last year, beating Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley twice as he took his professional boxing record to 5-0.

Paul will fight Hasim Rahman Jr next on August 6 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Meanwhile, Jake’s brother Logan Paul fought Mayweather in an exhibition bout in June of 2021.

Now Logan’s brother Jake has taken the opportunity to fire back at Mayweather – six months after the pair became embroiled in a press conference altercation when the internet sensation stole the boxer’s hat.
Speaking on Twitter, Jake said: “Some people are asking about my 2022 goals. Here they are.
“1. Buy Mayweather Promotions and save them from bankruptcy.
“2. Hire stylist for Floyd Mayweather.

“3. Take selfie with Oprah.
“4. Go 2 chiropractor 2 heal back from carrying the sport of boxing.”
Paul ended 2021 with a sensational knockout of Woodley as he put to bed the closeness of their first fight – which he won by split decision.
And the sixth round KO was enough to earn him the ESPN Knockout of the Year award – although some boxing fans were furious at Paul being given the accolade.
There have also been accusations that the pay-per-view numbers for the Woodley rematch were poor.
But Paul hit back at those claims with a rant on social media.
He said: “The PPV number rumours are bulls***. First fight with Woodley we sold 500k+.
“Numbers for this one [the rematch] are still rolling in but still looking positive.
Not my best business night. But remember.. everyone wanted to see me vs Fury and that’s what we sold.
“Shoutout to Showtime for riding with me and all the fighters on the card and Tyron for not being a b***h like most of these ‘fighters’ are..”
