I tried the McDonald’s burger that everyone won’t stop talking about – here’s what I think
A FAMISHED McDonald’s customer got their gnashers into the burger on everyone’s lips – and gave an honest review on it.
The Double McPlant burger from the fast-food giant has got jaws chomping since its release for “Veganuary”.
The burger, cooked separately from Maccies’ meat products will set you back £4.89[/caption]

The burger, cooked separately from Maccies’ meat products will set you back £4.89, but is £6.49 as a meal.
It contains not one, but two Beyond Meat patties, a vegan sesame bun, mustard and ketchup.
But it also contains lashings of ‘ultimate’ vegan sandwich sauce alongside fresh onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato and of course, vegan cheese.
The Mirror reported how the burger offers new larger patties compared to old classics like the Big Mac.
But as far as new inventions – that was as far it went.
The vegan bun was “drier”, the paper reported, because it’s different to regular brioche bread.
Despite this, it is packed with condiments which means the burger packs a well seasoned bite that covers up the drier buns.
McDonald’s fans have already branded the burger a game changer.
One Twitter user said: “As an anti-vegan, I was sceptical, but my good god it’s delicious.”
Another drooled: “Double McPlant is everything! Happy Veganuary.”
The McPlant took three years to develop, the original single patty version was released in September 2021.
It is unclear how long the updated version will be in restaurants for.
The spicy sriracha chicken wrap is another new additions to Maccies’ 1,450 restaurants as of January 4.
Also returning to the McDonald’s menu are the cheesy garlic bites and the Aero peppermint McFlurry.
Despite January usually being a no-takeaway month, The Sun put the new items to the test.
Sadly, the new McFlurry was out of stock at our local restaurant so we didn’t get to try it.

McDonald’s is making a major change to menus next week – and there’s a new burger
MCDONALD’S is revamping its menu and its launching a popular burger across restaurants nationwide.
The chain is adding an “undeniably delicious” Double McPlant burger to its menu – and it will be available in all restaurants from January 4.
A Double McPlant will cost £4.89 and £6.49 as part of a meal, but prices may vary depending on location.
The burger features two Beyond Meat patties, a vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, vegan sandwich sauce, fresh onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato and vegan cheese.
When The Sun taste tested the McPlant burger, we found it tasted just like a quarter pounder with cheese.
If you buy the burger as part of a meal, you will also get a choice of soft drink and a side – such as a portion of fries or a salad.
It is vegan certified and cooked separately from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches, using dedicated utensils.
After successfully trialling the McPlant burger at 250 branches last year, bosses made it a full-time fixture on the menu in January.
Food boffins at McDonald’s have been creating the McPlant burger for the past three years.
It will be the first time the Double McPlant has featured on the menu.
The Sun has asked McDonald’s how long the new burger will be on the menu for.
But the introduction of the McPlant burger isn’t the only change Maccies is making to its menu.
The fast food giant will stop serving items from the Christmas menu on January 3.
There items include:
- Big Tasty – £5.29 on its own or £6.89 as a meal
- Big Tasty with bacon – £5.89 on its own or £7.49 as a meal
- Cheese Melt Dippers – £2.29
- Cheese Melt Dippers Sharebox – £5.99
- Celebrations McFlurry – £1.79 for regular
- McCrispy – £4.99 or £6.49 as a meal
- Festive Pie – £1.29
- Caramel Waffle Latte – £2.09
- Hot Chocolate Deluxe – £1.49
In July, McDonald’s revealed it would be adding up to 20p to a number of menu items.
The much-loved 99p cheeseburger increased in price for the first time in 14 years, and now costs £1.19.
How do I find my nearest McDonald’s?
If you’re planning on taking a trip to McDonald’s, you’ll want to know where your nearest branch is.
The chain has a restaurant locator tool on its website you can use to find your nearest one – and check what time it opens.
Bear in mind that McDonald’s serves breakfast every day until 11am.
After that, the menu switches to the normal menu serving meals such as burgers, chicken nuggets and more.
How can I save on my McDonald’s order?
There are plenty of ways you can save on your next trip to McDonald’s.
You should choose your branch wisely – menu prices can vary across different restaurants just a couple of miles apart.
We’ve seen Big Mac meals up to 30p cheaper before, which added up over the course of a year could save you a fair few pounds.
You can also get freebies on your birthday if you’ve got the My McDonald’s app.
Remember to log your date of birth on the app though, otherwise you’ll miss out.
You can get a Big Mac and fries for just £1.99 as well if you fill out the quick feedback survey following your last visit.
All you’ll need is your receipt which should have been issued no more than 60 days after your visit.
A 12-digit code will be printed on the proof of purchase and then you can enter the McDonald’s Food for Thought website to fill out a quick survey.

I was a walking time bomb after eating 7K calories a day from McDonalds – now I’m unrecognisable after shedding 14st
A TAKEAWAY addict who ate three McDonald’s meals a day for eight years has now lost 14 stone — half his body weight.
IT worker Matthew Riggs gorged 7,000 calories from the fast food giant and drank a bottle of rum a day, pushing him over 27 stone.
Matt changed his diet to oats, protein powder, chicken, vegetables and turkey meatballs[/caption]
The Essex 35 year old was once addicted to fast food and has estimated to have eaten 30,000 McDonalds and weighed 27 stone[/caption]
But it all came to an end when his son Harrison, ten, said: “You’re fat Daddy — are you going to have a heart attack and die?” That 2019 comment rocked Matt, 35, of Basildon, Essex.
He said: “I just choked up. I had to walk out of his room.”
He dumped McDonald’s for good, cut the alcohol and joined a gym, spending 755 consecutive days working out.
Matt also changed his diet to oats, protein powder, chicken, vegetables and turkey meatballs.
Eating 2,500 calories a day, he has slimmed to 13st 2lb.
He still has a family take-away at weekend but wins at body transformation shows.
Matthew said: “I was a total McDonald’s addict.
“The only exercise I did was walking there.
“I was a walking time bomb and in complete denial. Harrison saved my life.”
Customers React to McDonalds’ Almost Fully-Automated Restaurant
McDonalds tells CNN there’s “some interaction between customers and the restaurant team” when picking up orders or drinks. But at the special “order ahead” drive-through lane, your app-ordered bag of food is instead delivered to a platform by your car’s window using a vertical conveyor belt.
CNN reports that it’s targetted to customers on the go. For example, there’s dedicated parking spaces outside for curbside pickup orders, while inside there’s a room with bags to be picked up by food-delivery couriers (who also get their own designated parking spaces outside). But for regular customers, CBS emphasizes that “ordering is done through kiosks or an app — no humans involved there, either.”
But not all customers are loving it. “Well there goes millions of jobs,” one commenter on a TikTok video said about the new restaurant said.
“Oh no first we have to talk with Siri and Google [and] now we have to talk to another computer,” another one opined.
“I’m not giving my money to robots,” another commenter wrote. “Raise the minimum wage!”
Other customers had more personal concerns, expressing worries about how they could get their order fixed if it was incorrectly prepared or how to ask for extra condiments. “And if they forget an item. Who you supposed to tell, the robot? It defeats the purpose of using the drive thru if you have to go inside for it,” one consumer noted….
To be sure, not everyone had negative views about the concept. Some customers expressed optimism that the automated restaurant could improve service and their experience.

Man, 42, ‘killed his mum, 66, by setting fire to their flat before driving to McDonald’s to buy milkshake’
A MAN killed his mother by setting fire to their flat before driving to McDonald’s to buy a milkshake, a court heard.
Andrew Wilding, 42, is accused of the murder of Elsie Pinder after the blaze tore through their Essex home last year.
Elsie Pinder, 66, tragically died in the horror blaze at her flat in July last year[/caption]
Andrew Wilding, 42, has been charged with his mother’s murder[/caption]
He allegedly started the fatal fire at around 2.45am on July 3, 2021, as the 66-year-old was in her bed in Southend.
Elsie – who had suffered a stroke and lived with mobility issues – tried to escape the roaring flames, but her efforts were in vain.
The family living above her described hearing the mum screaming her son’s name before she fell silent, Basildon Crown Court heard.
She was rescued by emergency services but suffered a heart attack and multiple organ failure after inhaling the toxic fumes.

Elsie tragically died from her injuries.
Her upstairs neighbours thankfully woke up and smelt the smoke seeping upstairs and managed to flee to safety.
The father of the family is said to have re-entered the burning flat in an attempt to try and save Elsie and Wilding, presuming they were both still inside.
But Wilding had allegedly left the premises before smoke began rising out of the property.

Prosecutors claim Wilding drove to McDonald’s and purchased a milkshake at the drive-thru while staying in the car for ten minutes.
The son then returned to the charred flat and allegedly tried to cover up the arson.
He allegedly told onlookers that the batteries in a model helicopter could have sparked the deadly blaze – which were later found in a store cupboard inside the flat.
Wilding’s search history also showed him looking up arson and “how to start a fire and make it appear accidental” shortly before the fire began, it is alleged.
He was charged with his mother’s murder as well as causing arson with intent to endanger the life of the family that lived above them.
Wilding denies both counts.
As the trial began on November 15 at Basildon Crown Court, prosecuting barrister Andrew Jackson gave his opening statement.
He told the jury that Wilding went “deliberately out of his way” to make the fire look like an accident, including planting batteries and a model helicopter inside a store cupboard.
Mr Jackson said: “The prosecution’s case is in those early hours the
defendant set fire to that flat deliberately, in doing so intended to
kill his mother who at the time was asleep on her bed.”
‘SHE TRIED TO ESCAPE’
The prosecution says the 42-year-old would know her mobility problems would make it all the more difficult for her to leave.
The prosecutor continued: “After setting the fire the defendant left the flat and went to McDonald’s.
“Elsie was found unconscious on her bed in a position that suggests that she tried to escape. She shouted for her son but had been overcome by the fumes.”
Mr Jackson said that Wilding had rekindled a relationship with an older man living in Kent before his mother’s death.
He explained the 42-year-old would travel to visit him for long periods, leaving his mother alone at home with “a few sandwiches”.
It was also heard that Wilding was unemployed and in debt at the time of the horror blaze.
The jury heard Wilding refused to answer any questions in his police
interview.
Mr Jackson said: “The answer to those questions as to why
he did this; he had come to view his mother as a burden getting in the way of obtaining financial wealth and independence.”
Shortly after Elsie’s death, her son Paul paid tribute to his late mum, describing her as a “loving woman”.

He said: “She was a lovely, kind-hearted, generous, loving and witty lady who can only be described as a bottle of champagne waiting to pop. She will be sadly missed.”
The trial continues.
