After plenty of leaks, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the next entry in its long-running series. More details are expected to drop during the Ubisoft Forward event September 10th, but for now we can gleam some tidbits from the announcement image. It shows Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character from the recent Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, leaping with his hidden blade in front of the Palace of the Golden Gate in Baghdad (via Polygon).
That lines up with previous leaks around the game’s setting, which also indicated that Mirage would be a return to stealth gameplay for the series. The new title was originally intended to be DLC for Valhalla, but Bloomberg reports that it was later transformed into a standalone experience to fill out Ubisoft’s release schedule. No matter its conception, it’s nice to see the series return to its Middle Eastern roots. Being a super-powered killing machine in Origins and Valhalla is fun and all, but it’s far from the methodical and less action-heavy gameplay of the earlier AC games (especially the under-rated Origins).
Assassin’s Creed Mirage has been announced by Ubisoft.
Confirmation comes via tweet after artwork for the game leaked earlier today.
Today’s leak follows previous information on the game which slipped out ahead of time, such as the game’s setting, character, and timeframe.
Assassin’s Creed’s next game is officially the Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla spin-off Mirage, formerly known as Assassin’s Creed: Rift, which focuses on the character Basim in 1st century Baghdad, Ubisoft has confirmed.

What looks like promotional material for an unreleased Assassin’s Creed game is being shared online today, starring someone in assassin garb for the first time in seven years. The images show what’s purported to be artwork of something called The Forty Thieves Quest for the rumoured Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, also known by the development name of Rift.
Back in February, Alice O. highlighted an expansion planned for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla that’s reportedly being spun-off into a standalone stealth game. At the time the project was being referred to as Rift, but multiple sources are now saying the game will be called Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. Both Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier and Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb say they’ve been told by people familiar with the game that Mirage is accurate.
Information regarding the next Assassin’s Creed game has surfaced, and the title is reportedly Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
This is according to YouTuber j0nathan, who revealed various details on the game, including an expected spring 2023 release.
Currently in development under the codename Rift, j0nathan confirmed the Baghdad location, and said the timeline is set between 860 and 870.
