Rainbow Six Siege Nier skin isn’t 2B, it’s an all-new character
Yes, you read that right folks, the new Rainbow Six Siege Iana skin isn’t 2B from Nier Automata. The new Elite set was finally announced on November 21, and it perfectly blends the tactical FPS game with Square Enix’s cult classic anime saga.

Rainbow Six Siege Is Getting A Nier Crossover
Nier has had a lot of collaborations with a lot of games–and this time, it’s crossing over with Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft’s tactical shooter will soon be getting a Maverick Nier Replicant bundle in the upcoming Operation Solar Raid update.
The Nier and Rainbow Six Siege collaboration trailer teased what looks to be an aged up version of Nier–also referred to as Brother Nier–from Nier Replicant, holding a gun. Grimoire Weiss also made a cameo, and the trailer description said there will be more Nier content revealed during the Year 7 Season 4 reveal panel.
At the end of the trailer, boots that look like they belong to a Yorha unit show up with the tagline, “A Yorha soldier is approaching… glory to mankind.” It’s unknown if this character is 2B, but players can expect some sort of Nier Automata inclusion in the crossover.

Nier: Automata’s secret church mystery: chaos, community, and an amazing mod
Scrolling through Twitter, Daniel Griffiths’ interest was piqued when he saw a post describing a mysterious phenomenon being shared in the Nier: Automata community: A2 opening a hidden door in The Copied City and strolling into a secret, never-before-seen area. Curious, he decided to pursue more knowledge, and landed in the Nier modding Discord server.
Like him, many other Nier: Automata players who caught wind of the phenomenon sat upright – metaphorically and perhaps literally – and flocked to both Reddit and Discord to check out what exactly was up with the secret area. It was dubbed the “church mystery” or “sadfutago’s posts”, among other monikers.
NieR: Automata’s performance on Nintendo Switch exceeded my expectations
Admittedly, my expectations for NieR: Automata on the Nintendo Switch were quite low. I love Nintendo’s handheld more than most, picking it up near enough every day, but I’m also quite accustomed to it’s limited performance capabilities (as anyone that picked up Dark Souls on the platform will tell you).
So, when I had the opportunity to play NieR:Automata on Switch this past week, I began the download with a quiver of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ to hand. Yet, while I’m only about eight hours into Yoko Taro’s unsettling masterpiece, I can’t wait to see it through to the end (or 26 ends, in this case).
Just yesterday, we saw the Anniversary Edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim come to Switch, and this is one of many huge titles that has been ported to the handheld since its release in 2017. There’s also Dark Souls, Wolfenstein, and The Witcher 3, to name but a few triple-A juggernauts on the hybrid home console/handheld device. If you’ve picked any of these games up, you’ll know that they certainly feel compromised on the Switch compared to other platforms.
NieR: Automata’s spinoff anime arrives this January
NieR: Automata’s anime spinoff will arrive early next year. The adaptation, now titled NieR: Automata Version 1.1a, will debut in January 2023. NieR creator Yoko Taro shared the release window during Aniplex Online Fest over the weekend (via Gizmodo), revealing at the same time that the story of the anime would differ from its source material. The two will at least share the same premise. NieR: Automata opens with a ruined Earth and a proxy war involving human-made androids. “Nier: Automata was a story we created to be a game, so copying it as-is wouldn’t make an interesting story for an anime,” Taro said during the panel.
A-1 Pictures, best known for its work on series like Erased, From the New World and Your Lie in April, is producing the project, with Ryouji Masuyama co-writing the script alongside Taro. Masuyama’s previous credits include Gurren Lagann and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. “I’m the one going around and breaking things for [A-1 Pictures], so if anyone is dissatisfied [with the anime’s story], it’s likely to be my fault,” Taro warned fans. Given that NieR: Automata features multiple endings, it’s probably for the best the anime won’t hew too closely to the game.
The panel didn’t mention details about distribution outside of Japan. However, since Sony owns both Aniplex and Crunchyroll, there’s a good chance simulcast rights will go to the streaming service. It will be interesting to see if the anime brings renewed interest to NieR: Automata, much like the recent release of Edgerunners on Netflix did for Cyberpunk 2077. Commercially, Automata performed better than publisher Square Enix expected, but the company has yet to announce a proper sequel – though we did get a mobile spinoff and remaster of the original NieR last year.
Nier: Automata’s Anime Looks Like a Gift to All Mankind
PlatinumGames’ Nier: Automata is considered one of the best games of the 2010s, and in the last five years, the love for it has grown as it’s been replayed and expanded to other platforms. (Recent Secret doors also helped.) While it’s not clear if there’ll be a follow up to the game, its upcoming anime can serve as…
Nier: Automata Ver1.1a anime adaptation gets a January release date and a first proper trailer
The first proper trailer for the Nier: Automata anime has been released, as well as setting a release date for this January.
Nier: Automata Ver1.1a (because it wouldn’t be a Nier piece of media if it didn’t have some kind of weird name) received a lengthy trailer yesterday (September 24) showing off the anime in action for the first time, and even featured since insider details from Yoko Taro and the anime’s director Ryoji Masayuma. It also confirmed a release date for the anime, which will be available to watch January 2023.
The trailer doesn’t show off too much of the anime itself, but we do get to see what looks to be some of the early scenes of the game, which has a strong early 2000s vibe to the style.
Nier: Automata anime Ver1.1a trailers announce release date in January
The Nier: Automata anime has announced its release date with new trailers as the tie-in for one of the best RPG games follows in the footsteps of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, League of Legends Arcane, Dota 2 Dragon’s Blood, and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf to put an anime spin on another popular videogame series. The trailers give us a glimpse of protagonists 2B and 9S as they embark on their anime adventure.
