The Microsoft Store’s Spring Sale is packed with deals on Surface devices, Xbox games, controllers, and more

One of the biggest tech sales of the year is in full spring — er, swing.
Savvy shoppers can save up to $600 on Surface tablets and laptops, up to 90% on digital Xbox and PC games, up to 25% on Xbox controllers, and up to 33% on PC accessories like keyboards and mouses during the Microsoft Store’s Spring Sale, an annual sitewide event that runs through the tail end of April. (Most deals will wrap up on April 20, but some last all the way until April 30.)
We spent the better part of a morning poring over all the listings and rounded up the best deals below. Full disclosure: There aren’t many mind-bogglingly steep or rare discounts that major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy can’t compete with (aside from some dirt-cheap games), but this is definitely a sale worth perusing if you’re interested in upgrading an older device or grabbing something new to play.

Our pick: Microsoft Surface Pro 9
(opens in a new tab)
Why we like it
Microsoft’s latest flagship 2-in-1 tablet sports a 1080p HD camera, a 13-inch, edge-to-edge PixelSense touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and your choice of two processor options. Our comrades at PCMag (which is owned by Mashable’s publisher, Ziff Davis) found the ARM-based SQ3 model with 5G a little underwhelming in terms of performance, but gave the powerful and ultra-polished Intel version an Editor’s Choice Award: “Long live the king of Windows tablets,” reviewer Charles Jefferies said of it.
Select configurations were on sale for $200 off at the time of writing (starting at $899.99), but we’d recommend waiting until Sunday, April 9 to buy one: That’s when the Microsoft Store will bump its Surface Pro 9 discounts to up to $300 off. Those offers will then be live until April 23.

Our pick: “Ori and the Will of the Wisps”
(opens in a new tab)
Why we like it
Available for Windows and Xbox One (with a free next-gen update for the Series X|S), this stunning sequel to 2015’s Ori and the Blind Forest was one of our absolute favorite video games of 2020. Former Mashable entertainment reporter Kellen Beck went so far as to say it’s “easily one of the best platformers of the past 10 years or so,” praising its exquisite visuals and “addictive” gameplay in his review. The Microsoft Store has it on sale for a mere $5.99 until April 20, which is 83% off its suggested retail price of $29.99 (or a $24 savings). As far as we know, it’s never been that cheap before anywhere.

Our pick: Xbox Wireless Controller – Stellar Shift Special Edition
(opens in a new tab)
Why we like it
The latest entry in Xbox’s shimmery and mystical “Shift” controller series features a color-changing, blue-purple finish that gives it “deep space vibes,” according to a press release. In short: It’s pretty! You can grab it on sale in the Microsoft Store for just $59.99 (or $10 off its $69.99 MSRP) until April 22, which Best Buy was matching when we last checked. It wasn’t in stock anywhere else, FYI.

Our pick: Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard
(opens in a new tab)
Why we like it
Featuring a cushioned palm rest and dedicated shortcut keys for Microsoft 365 apps and emojis, this keyboard’s funky shape serves an important purpose, which is to eliminate strain by encouraging a more natural hand/wrist/forearm posture. It has a bit of a learning curve at first, but according to PCMag deputy managing editor Tom Brant, it definitely “deserves a close look from productivity hounds.” It typically retails for $59.99, but Microsoft will give it to you for $45.99 until April 16 — a 23% savings and a price that’s matched on Amazon, just in case it sells out.

With the worldwide Honkai Star Rail release date due soon, the game’s producer David Jiang talks to Denfamicogamer and Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo about some of the inspirations for and development of the upcoming turn-based anime game. Speaking about the design for the places you’ll visit, Jiang remarks that Honkai Star Rail worlds are so packed with detail that it takes a year to make just one of them.

After 35 Years, Dead Ringers Is Still Packed With Uncomfortable Chills
David Cronenberg’s name has become shorthand for skin-crawling body horror, and many of his films do lean into the extremely visceral. But while Dead Ringers tells a story rooted in the medical profession, its shocks are (mostly) more psychologically distressing than stomach-turning—with no potency lost 35 years after…
The Last of Us Blu-ray and Digital Releases Will Come Packed With Special Features
What’s the point of buying a Blu-ray for a streaming series? Two big reasons: even for a hit HBO show like The Last of Us, there’s no guarantee it’ll always be easily accessible (see: Westworld). And once you get a load of all the extras included in the home release, you’ll have a lot of trouble resisting the purchase.

Overwatch 2’s Surprisingly Good Dating Sim Is Packed With In-Jokes, Teases For The Future, And An Exciting Genji Reveal
As part of Overwatch 2’s Valentine’s Day festivities, Blizzard has released a limited-time dating sim that gives players a shot at love with the winged-medic Mercy and everyone’s favorite cyborg ninja, Genji. Though the short browser game– cleverly-titled Loverwatch–is intended to be a brief, humorous, and explicitly non-canon experience, the dating sim is surprisingly delightful, packed with plenty of in-jokes and teases for Overwatch 2’s future.
In Loverwatch, you are given the choice to pursue either Genji or Mercy as a romantic partner. Your journey begins in a comedy club, where you are tasked with delivering the right kind of joke to make your date laugh, and is followed by a romantic dinner in Morocco. Both characters then have a special third date, with its location dependent upon who you are attempting to woo. If you manage to make them fall in love with you by the end of the third date, you are then treated to a special scene offering a more intimate look at these heroes.
While the concept and allure is simple, the fan service Loverwatch provides runs much deeper than merely seeing Mercy, Genji, and the game’s Cupid, Hanzo, repeatedly blush. The game features countless in-jokes, such as Genji having a reputation for needing healing and Zenyatta never getting enough content or screen time. It also contains several fourth-wall breaks, as you the player are well-aware of Overwatch’s lore while the cast of Loverwatch feigns ignorance.
This Tiny MSI PC is Packed With Power
