Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s coolest new feature is named as a tribute to Nintendo’s pre-gaming past
We’re in the midst of a fairly exciting time in video games right now, where the history of gaming is such that there can be exciting looks back as well as leaps forward.
I’m not talking about remakes and remasters here, either – I’m just talking about those silly little winks and nods that just add texture to the culture of a medium. Things like when you hear the Wilhelm Scream or Tarzan Yell in TV or film; a nudge in your ribs with a knowing grin. For a long time, gaming generally felt too young to embrace this sort of thing, but now we have enough history behind us that it’s becoming delightfully more common.
One company that’s been able to do this more often than most, however, is Nintendo. Founded 133 years ago, Nintendo’s history stretches back long before Hiroshi Yamauchi decided to take a punt on digital games, with a history making real-world toys and playing cards. It follows that occasionally Nintendo dips back into that history for a reference or two – and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a delightful new one.
EU agrees to allow sales of e-fuel internal combustion engine cars past 2035
The European Union has agreed to make a carveout for synthetic fuels in its proposed 2035 ban on the sale of new combustion engine cars. Per the Associated Press, the bloc made a deal with Germany on Saturday to allow automakers to sell new ICE cars past 2035, provided those vehicles run on climate-neutral fuels only. The agreement ends a dispute that had threatened to scuttle the EU’s signature climate change policy. At the start of March, the European Parliament delayed a vote that would have codified the proposed ban after Germany, with support from automakers, said it would not back the mandate without an exemption for synthetic fuels.
We have found an agreement with Germany on the future use of efuels in cars.
We will work now on getting the CO2-standards for cars regulation adopted as soon as possible, and the Commission will follow-up swiftly with the necessary legal steps to implement recital 11.

“We have found an agreement with Germany on the future use of e-fuels in cars,” Frans Timmermans, the executive vice president of European Green Deal, posted to Twitter on Saturday. “We will work now on getting the CO2 standards for cars regulation adopted as soon as possible.” Environmental group Greenpeace criticized the agreement. “This lazy compromise undermines climate protection in transport, and it harms Europe,” the organization wrote in a statement.
As The Guardian notes, making synthetic fuels is incredibly energy intensive. Moreover, without direct air capture tech, e-fuel cars produce almost as many greenhouse emissions as their conventional ICE counterparts. According to one estimate published before Saturday’s announcement, a carveout for synthetic fuels could result in as many as 46 million fewer cumulative EV sales in Europe by 2050 “without providing any additional CO2 savings.” It’s also worth noting that no company is producing synthetic fuels at scale yet. That’s a significant point because e-fuels are unlikely to save European drivers money. By 2030, Transport & Environment estimates the average EU driver will pay €782 a year more to fill their car’s tank with synthetic fuel than conventional gas.

The Past Four Months Have Been Rough on Rockets—Especially New Ones
Earlier this week, Relativity Space’s 3D-printed Terran 1 rocket failed to reach orbit on its first flight. That’s now the sixth failed launch in the past four months across the global space industry, in what’s an upsetting yet not altogether surprising trend.

THE colours of the rainbow arch across the sky — as the Red Arrows fly past as part of their rehearsals.
The team was flying over RAF Scampton in Lincs — when it was spotted against the picture-perfect backdrop.

The pilots were making the most of a break in the wet weather to practise their manoeuvres.
Training flights will continue until the spring when they head overseas.
The Red Arrows are currently based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, which is also home to the Mobile Meteorological Unit.
When the team was formed in 1965, their first home was at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
A year later they moved to RAF Kemble, where they remained for the rest of the 60s and 70s.
Currently, the team flies the BAE Systems Hawk T1 jet and can fly as low as 100 feet and reach speeds of up to 600 miles per hour.
Pilots are often some of the most highly qualified and experienced in the RAF, with a team of and last year flew in 4,800 displays in 57 countries.

Getting a ChatGPT at capacity error? Tips on how to get past it
So you tried to use ChatGPT and it’s at capacity? Join the club.
Ever since OpenAI’s chatbot technology took the world by storm, everyone is curious about experimenting with the sophisticated AI language model. Because ChatGPT has been so inundated with requests, users are finding that it’s often at capacity. Technically speaking, the servers can only handle a certain volume of requests and the computing power required is expensive. How expensive? Several cents per chat, which is “eye-watering” according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Luckily, waiting an hour or so and trying again works. But if you need ChatGPT and you need it now, there are some ways to try and get access. Read on.
Check server outages
First things first, check to see if you’re getting an error because a server is down. At the very least, this will help you pinpoint whether you can’t get access because ChatGPT is at capacity or because of a server outage. Use Downdetector (which shares the same parent company as Mashable) or OpenAI’s own status tool.
Refresh the page
Not to sound like the classic tech support meme, but have you tried refreshing the page? Seriously though, this has been working for people. Refreshing ChatGPT signals a new request to the server which might bump you to the front of the line — much like hanging up if you’ve been on hold for a while and calling back again.
Log out and log back in
Like refreshing the page, logging out of ChatGPT and logging back in creates a new signal request to the server, which might be enough to get the platform’s attention.
Use a VPN or incognito mode
You might have trouble getting access to ChatGPT because the IP address you’re using. Changing your IP address will ping a different server, which might have different server capacity. Another method with a similar effect is going incognito on your browser.
Try outside of peak hours
ChatGPT often reaches capacity because everyone is trying to use it at the same time. A workaround would simply be to try and access ChatGPT during time outside of peak hours. Roughly, this translates to earlier in the morning or later at night in your time zone, when everyone isn’t trying to use ChatGPT to summarize a book or ask it to write a cover letter.
Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus
Subscribers who pay for the premium version called ChatGPT Plus get availability even during high-demand periods, faster response speed, and access to new features. If you’re desperate to use ChatGPT, you can shell out $20/month for the Plus subscription.
If all else fails… try another AI language model
While ChatGPT is the AI darling of the moment, there are other large language models (LLMs) out there that have comparable levels of sophistication. Just ask Mashable’s Tim Marcin who got a satisfactory response for a song about chicken wings in the style of The Beatles. You can read his full list of ChatGPT alternatives to try out.
