Organizing my pretty pile of garbage
There’s really no other way to say this: I like to save trash. Receipts from favorite stores or meals, pamphlets and maps from trips, ticket stubs, and clothing tags — if some scrap is from a cherished memory or even simply well-designed, I tuck it away in random corners of my home and mostly forget about it until I go looking for something else.
The impulse to hoard documentation is likely annoying to anyone who lives with me. Unfortunately for them, it’s also very good for my job. At least one Wayback Machine tab stays open at all times, and I have a terrifying number of screenshots, recordings, transcripts, and notes bogging down every device I own. But unlike the physical ephemera packed away in drawers and boxes, files on my…

Some New Year’s resolutions that won’t end up in your pile of shame

But I’ve found simpler is better for resolutions. You might consider tending to yourself as though you are a garden: you don’t need to be bulldozed and totally revamped every year, just revitalized a little to let yourself bloom.
You don’t even have to struggle to come up with something — because I have some suggestions right here:
- Get up to pee immediately at night. I’m pretty sure I got this one from the writer Nicole Cliffe, and it’s really good. I know it’s nice and warm in bed and it’s cold outside of bed, especially if you are camping and in a sleeping bag, but……

Netflix throws Resident Evil on the endless pile of shows it’s cancelled
If it’s a Netflix show released post-2018 or so, you can probably bet on it being cancelled, and that’s just what has happened to Resident Evil.
Another day, another headline that reads ‘Netflix cancels insert show you probably like here,’ this time that particular show being Resident Evil. As reported by Deadline, Netflix has decided against renewing the show for a second season, only a month and a half after it was released on July 14.
As noted by Deadline, the show didn’t have a particularly strong showing in Netflix’s top 10, and points out that Netflix determines if it renews a show based on cost vs. viewing. But as always, how many people actually watched the show is a complete mystery, as Netflix, like essentially all streaming services, don’t release viewing numbers at all, not even giving them to showrunners.
