Poor Software Costs the US 2.4 Trillion
The report highlights several key areas of CPSQ growth, including:
Cybercrime losses due to a rising number of software vulnerabilities. Losses rose 64% from 2020 to 2021 and are on track for a further 42% increase from 2021 to 2022. The quantity and cost of cybercrime incidents have been on the rise for over a decade, and now account for a sum equivalent to the world’s third-largest economy after the U.S. and China.
Software supply chain problems with underlying third-party components are up significantly. This year’s report shows that the number of failures due to weaknesses in open-source software components accelerated by an alarming 650% from 2020 to 2021.
Technical debt has become the largest obstacle to making changes in existing code bases. Technical debt refers to software development rework costs from the accumulation of deficiencies leaving data and systems potentially vulnerable. This year’s report illustrates that deficiencies aren’t being resolved, leading technical debt to increase to approximately $1.52 trillion.

Diablo 4 Development Mired In Crunch And Poor Leadership According To New Report
Ahead of the game’s probable launch in June, the Diablo 4 team has been crunching to ensure the game’s timely release, according to a new report.
The Washington Post reported that the Diablo 4 team is mired in long hours, and the company is offering insufficient perks in exchange. While the company has not explicitly required working overtime, Blizzard has offered a variety of incentives to keep employees at their desks. These range from $25 Door Dash credit for employees who work over 10 hours a day to gaining company stock shares after the game ships.
These incentives have not been enough to keep all employees at the company, however. The Diablo 4 team has reportedly been consistently losing developers. One 20-person team lost half of its members over a year. Former employees interviewed by the Post alleged that when they asked for raises, some managers suggested they quit the company to look for a higher wage elsewhere, and only return to Blizzard when they have more experience. Many of the employees who do leave have multiple years of experience, while their replacements are inexperienced, entry-level hires. As a result of these issues, many quoted employees seem to doubt that the game will release in a completed state come June.

As Overwatch 2’s Halloween Terror event kicks off, fans can’t stop complaining about poor value
Back in the day, the Overwatch Halloween Terror events were something the community came together to celebrate. The event first kicked off way back in 2016, the same year the first game launched. The seasonal event would then kick off every year after, featuring exclusive cosmetics, seasonal loot boxes, and an exclusive brawl in the form of Junkenstein’s Revenge.
Now that we’re in a new era with Overwatch 2, and the original is no longer playable at all, we’re having to make do with the new interpretation of the event. And players aren’t happy.
Heading on over to the Overwatch subreddit, you can see the community complaining about the value of this event compared to what we saw back in the heady loot box-filled days of the Overwatch.
