Binance under investigation for possibly skirting sanctions against Russia
Binance has a fresh pair of eyes on its business dealings, this time belonging to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Bloomberg reported that the crypto exchange (currently the world’s largest) is facing a DOJ probe over possibly allowing Russians to move money in a way that would violate U.S. sanctions. Per Bloomberg’s report, Binance has also talked to the DOJ about older, similar complaints related to sanctions against Iran.
Binance, of course, denied any wrongdoing in a statement. The company emphasized that it “launched an initiative to completely overhaul its corporate governance structure” in 2021, becoming compliant with international sanctions.
It’s worth noting that no formal accusation has been made against Binance, as this is just a probe. It may be some time before accusations manifest—if they manifest at all. In 2021, Binance was under a similar investigation related to possible money laundering.
Binance became the world’s biggest crypto exchange late last year, as FTX infamously collapsed. At one point, Binance planned to bail out FTX financially, but that eventually fell through.
At least the crypto world is never boring.

Was it the MANDELA EFFECT? Precognition, Possibly Intuition?
A woman wonders if she has precognitive or intuitive abilities as a result of an unexplained incident. Could this be another case of the Mandela Effect?
“I had something highly strange occur in 2015 (another incident in a lifetime of inexplicable experiences) and I would appreciate any thoughts that you might share with me concerning this event. I read the obits in my local newspaper occasionally, as I sometimes worry that one of my old friend’s parents or someone I have known has passed on and I would want to express condolences (my own parents died suddenly, very close together, and I know how important that expressions of sympathy can be).
This concerns an obit that I read last summer (I noticed it because the woman was a prominent lady who was a high school friend of my mother’s, and also the mother-in-law of my son’s cousin). She had died of cancer, and it was doubly sad because her granddaughter was going to be the Queen of our local “Rose Festival” the following October. This is a great honor in our city, and the woman herself had actually been a Rose Queen in 1955. Her granddaughter is the daughter of my son’s cousin James, so my son and I discussed the news at length. He was getting married in November of that year and was inviting members of that family to his wedding. So I actually shared the news of her death with a few people, and remember that well.
Imagine my surprise when I read the local obits in June 2017 and saw that she had died recently! The story of her death was prominently featured, and I read it, in disbelief and utter shock, again and again. I called my son and he was confused as well, as I had already reported her passing to him two years previous! What can this mean? Did I have visual precognition of her death, 2 years before it occurred? Did I experience a time slip, going into the future to read her obit? Or did time curve back on itself and confuse me with a double death? This event has truly been worrisome to me-am I losing my mind and memory?
The week before Memorial Day in 2017, I had the random thought that a distant great-aunt of mine had passed and called several relatives to inquire about it. No, she was not dead, but no one knew anything about her situation-if she had been ill? Was living with her daughter? (she was 92) But 8 days later l got the news that she had actually died 6 days after my phone calls. What are your thoughts?” MC
NOTE: Precognition, possibly. Intuition, possibly. Was it the Mandela Effect? Who knows? I hear and read similar accounts regularly. It has happened to me as well. Lon

Sons of the Forest to improve AI companions, and possibly add new mode of transport
Following a developer Q&A which occurred across both Reddit and Discord, players of Sons of the Forest have finally been given some answers about what to expect from the game in future (thanks, PC Gamer).
“We have big plans to keep adding tasks Kelvin can complete,” says Endnight Games. There are plans to possibly have the AI companion help construct defensive walls around our bases, while also repairing/fortifying bases when necessary.
Right now, Kelvin is great for collecting building resources, and even food, but he is honestly a tad useless beyond that. That said, he’s still fun to keep around, as well as Virginia.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be worth £70, but the price highlights gaming’s possibly unsustainable future
While we await today’s Nintendo Direct with bated breath, Nintendo itself may have made a rare slip-up overnight, triggering intense debate throughout online gaming communities. Specifically, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom might cost $70.
A jump to $69.99 would mark the first time Nintendo has priced a game in this bracket, but it’s also part of a wider trend. PlayStation, Xbox, and a raft of third parties have all begun to sell games at this more expensive price. In those cases, the price bump has generally been introduced as part of the shift to the new console hardware generation – but for Zelda, it’ll be a late-gen price hike.
Nintendo removed the price from its website pretty sharply, but not before the internet grabbed it and made it into a major talking point – and in fairness, there is a lot to talk about. Specifically – games are probably going to have to get more expensive. But on the flip side, can people actually afford that?
Destiny 2 Bug Resets Triumph Progress, Possibly Removing Seals You’ve Earned
Destiny 2 is currently offline as a lost-progress bug is being addressed. Bungie made the announcement on January 24, saying that a selection of Triumphs, Seals, and Catalysts are affected, necessitating the servers be taken down.
Players also noticed the issue over on the Destiny 2 Reddit community, claiming some of their completed Triumphs have reverted back to an uncompleted status.
Destiny 2’s Triumphs are objectives players can complete to earn Titles like Cursebreaker and Rivensbane. Some Triumphs can be quite laborious to finish, leading to passionate pleas from players for the issue to get fixed.

A crypto exchange agrees to pay $360,000 for possibly violating Iran sanctions
Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has agreed to pay $362,158.70 to settle with the Department of the Treasury over claims that the firm violated US sanctions against Iran. Kraken, which lets users buy, sell, hold, and trade cryptocurrency, is also required to invest an extra $100,000 in certain sanctions compliance controls.
As noted in the details of the settlement, Kraken allegedly processed 826 transactions totaling over $1.68 million on behalf of customers who may have been located in Iran. The Department of the Treasury says the apparent violations took place between October 14th, 2015, and June 29th, 2019, and were “non-egregious and voluntarily self-disclosed.”
Kraken already had an existing sanctions compliance program that…
The Rally Point: Terra Invicta is too much for one article, and possibly one lifetime
I pity anyone who has to review, or god help them, write a guide for Terra Invicta, because doing it even semi-comprehensively would take longer than I expect to live.
This is a hugely ambitious game, covering something I’ve never seen before, with a scope that makes Europa Universalis seem limited. It is a complicated, huge, and ponderous alien invasion simulator that constantly threatens to drop the other boot on you the entire time. Anything you do could be the butterfly whose little wingflaps eventually result in the obliteration of the planet. It is not a game to be powered through, but to be played and contemplated exclusively for a solid month.
That is its central weakness. But I think it had to be this way. Its commitment to an idea is demanding, but if you can tolerate some issues with clarity and presentation, the payoff for meeting it is utterly unique.
