Oskar Eklund, CEO & Founder of Hello There Games
I sat down with Oskar Eklund, CEO of Hello There Games, to talk about Kung Fury: Street Rage, the 5th anniversary update, and how the game originally came to be.
Eklund originally met Kung Fury writer, director, and star David Sandberg while the two were at Universal Music. Eklund (a Taikwondo fighter himself) had just led the studio in releasing Taekwondo, a touch-screen game based on the martial art, and was at Universal to talk to AVICII, the late musician the dev team had worked with for both AVICII Gravity and AVICII Invector.
The Creation of Kung Fury: Street Rage
Eklund and Sandberg met in a conference room and hit it off about martial arts. Sandberg told Eklund about Kung Fury and said he was interested in a game tie-in being made. After 15 minutes, Eklund was sold on the idea, and the team shared his excitement as they moved into development, hot on the heels of the Kung Fury short film’s Kickstarter success.
Kung Fury isn’t like most other martial arts films, and Kung Fury: Street Rage doesn’t play like other side-scrolling beat-em-ups, either. Instead of stage-based, “left-to-right” progression with free-moving combat, Kung Fury: Street Rage opted instead for no movement control, and only proximity-based combat using the Left and Right buttons for attacks (at least in the base game). Eklund said the choice was made due to the limitations of developing for mobile, combined with a very short dev time, but it also helps it stand out from its competition, having a more rhythmic feel than most brawlers.
Laser Unicorns (one of the production companies behind the film) and Sandberg worked directly with Hello There Games to bring characters and enemies from the film to the game, 1-for-1, bringing the original mobile version to life in a scant 2.5 months. Luckily, it found it’s audience, enabling the studio to work on story-based, expanded versions with voiceover provided by the film’s actors, as well as a lyric video of David Hasselhoff’s “True Survivor.”
The 5th Anniversary & Ultimate Edition
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Kung Fury: Street Rage, Laser Unicorns, David Sandberg, and Hello There Games decided to create a whole new game; Kung Fury: Street Rage – Ultimate Edition. This new version bundles all previously released content together and adds more worlds, boss fights, features, new gameplay modes with free movement, local multiplayer, and even David Hasselhoff as a playable character.
If you are looking to jump in, consider Kung Fury to be much more fun with a friend, so be sure to jump into co-op together, or challenge each other in classic mode. Eagle eyed players should also keep a lookout for Triceracop’s confession, the infamous ‘Bluescreen’ reference, as well as references to Ninja Turtles in the most likely of places…
When asked about any future plans related to Kung Fury (or Kung Fury 2), Oskar simply winked and said, “Maybe?” We will have to wait and see what the future will hold.

New Orleans Saints’ Marcus Maye has ‘charges dropped’ after allegations he ‘pointed gun at group of girls in road rage’
NFL safety Marcus Maye has seen his aggravated assault charges dropped by a Louisiana district attorney, according to reports.
Maye, 30, was arrested last September after a group of teenage girls claimed the New Orleans Saints star pointed a gun at them in a road rage incident.

Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick Jr. has refused to prosecute Maye due to “insufficient evidence,” according to a statement obtained by an NBC affiliate in New Orleans.
The NFL player was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm after the incident that occurred on August 29.
He was then released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center after posting $30,000 bond.
“Marcus vehemently denies the allegation from a motor vehicle incident, and looks forward to defending himself when all the facts come out,” Maye’s attorney, Eric Hessler, claimed at the time.
The former Florida standout started in all 10 games he played for the Saints in the 2022 season.
He started his NFL career with the New York Jets after they drafted the safety in the second round of the 2017 draft.
The Florida native moved to New Orleans last summer, signing a three-year, $28.5million contract with the team in free agency.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office for comment.
Maye’s charges are dropped a month after his Saints teammate, Alvin Kamara, was indicted in connection with an alleged beating incident.
The five-time Pro Bowl running back allegedly punched Darnell Greene Jr. eight times at a Las Vegas nightclub the night before the 2022 Pro Bowl.
He was arrested and taken to Clark County jail after the ensuing Pro Bowl game.
Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Chris Lammons, Percy Harris, and Darrin Young were also arrested in connection with the incident.
Greene Jr.’s injuries reportedly left him unconscious with an orbital fracture around his right eye.
Kamara’s attorney said the state “avoided a contested preliminary hearing” by indicting the star running back.
“He intends to vigorously fight the allegations at trial as he was defending himself and others at the time of the incident,” Kamara’s attorney added.
Steets of Rage 4 gets a big update with more than 300 improvements, custom survival mode
Streets of Rage 4 has a brand new update, adding in a custom survival mode, co-op specific moves, and more than 300 improvements.
Earlier this week, Dotemu released a big new update for Streets of Rage 4, giving the game a strong looking second wind. First up is the game’s new custom survival mode, a new mode that lets players play for as long as they can survive for, with rules that they can fine tune themselves. Customisation options include things like choosing perks, the starting level, whether it’s boss levels only, enemy scaling, hazards, destroyables, weapons, and whether you can even heal or not.
Alongside this new mode is the big addition of co-operative moves. With this update you’ll be able to do specific combos using different characters with a friend. You can see some of the different new moves included in this update in the trailer for the update above, a lot of which seem to be throwing your fight mate around the place while they prepare to do a big hit.
Battery-Swapping EVs Are All the Rage in Taiwan
During his time working for companies like Microsoft and HTC on projects like the Xbox gaming system and Android phones, Luke mulled over the idea of mobility. In 2011, he pitched the idea that would form the core of his company Gogoro: an electric vehicle that didn’t have to take up space and time charging its batteries, but instead relied on a network of batteries that could be swapped at roadside stations, like filling up a gas tank. Multiple investors and vehicle makers told him the idea was impossible.
Today, Gogoro battery-swapping stations are as common as gas stations in Taiwan, and the network supports nearly 400,000 battery swaps a day, by over 526,000 riders. Last year, according to the Taiwanese government, 12% of all scooters sold in Taiwan were electric, and over 90% of those relied on Gogoro batteries. But in order to make the battery network a reality, Gogoro didn’t have to develop just the batteries but also the vehicles that use them, along with an internal management software that encompasses everything from the supply of vehicle parts to the number of charged batteries at stations to how far riders can go before their next swap.
And the company now has pilot projects in Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, the Philippines, Singapore, and South Korea.

UK’s longest-serving female prisoner could finally be freed 37 years after murdering ex’s new lover in jealous rage
BRITAIN’S longest-serving prisoner could finally be freed after serving 35-years for a savage jealousy-fuelled murder.
Maria Pearson, now 66, will be told within weeks if she is to be unleashed for the 1986 slaying of Janet Newton.

Janet Newton was stabbed 17-times by Pearson in a frenzied killing in 1986[/caption]
The mum-of-three, then 31, was caged a year after stabbing her love rival to death in a frenzied killing.
Pearson buried a sheath knife 17 times into the 23-year-old building society worker after hunting her down a Hartlepool street.
A Parole Board hearing was held on the January 17 for Pearson but it was adjourned.
It came as the board demanded mental health checks and plans for how she will live in the community.
The killer, aged 31 when she was caged, has served an extra 23-years past her minimum term of 12-years.
A source told MailOnline: “Maria is the prison system’s forgotten inmate.”
Teeside Crown Court was told the knife skewered Janet’s heart and she was left for dead in a pool of blood in Grange Road, Hartlepool.
Pearson, from the city, had married welder Malcolm Pearson bigamously in 1986 – days after the birth of their daughter Rachel.
But her “intense and stormy” relationship with Malcolm was “doomed” and their baby was taken into care after a serious incident at home.
After the split, Janet got together with Malcolm.
It sparked a rage-fuelled campaign by Pearson who abused Janet in the street and sent bile-filled letters to her mum.
She killed the 23-year-old and was caged via Imprisonment for Public Protection which only gave minimum sentences and no maximum.
In 2006 she had her Parole Board recommendation to be moved to an open prison and prepared for release rejected.
It followed bullying and intimidation allegations two years earlier at an open prison.
She accused then Home Secretary, John Reid, of a “politically motivated” rejection but she was blasted for her “unresponsiveness to treatment and unwillingness to conform”.
Pearson’s last review in July 2020 was rejected, partly because of her poor behaviour in prison.
The exact date of the Parole Board hearing has not been confirmed.
A Parole Board spokesperson told MailOnline: “Parole reviews are undertaken thoroughly and with extreme care.
“Protecting the public is our number one priority.”
