Raid: Shadow Legends Is Getting an Animated Show Adaptation
Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares raid is a showdown against Nezarec
10-3-2023 Added confirmation from Bungie regarding the Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares World’s First raid race winners.
The Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Lightfall raid has launched and, in it, Guardians face one of the most terrifying enemies in the history of Destiny 2‘s expansive lore.
More than a thousand raiders have jumped into the World’s First race to complete the Destiny 2 raid in contest mode, which increases the event’s difficulty for the first 48 hours of the raid. The beautifully-designed raid features the voice of Nezarec, the Final God of Pain, encouraging players to seek the entity out while on the Witness’s pyramid ship.
The fireteam Hard in the Paint is the confirmed winner of the World’s First race, as confirmed by the official Destiny 2 Twitter account. The team defeated Nezarec to complete the raid in about 2 hours and 24 minutes.
Each member of the winning team will earn a special raid belt that Bungie has developed specifically for the event winners. However, all players who complete the raid within the first 48 hours will get a special emblem.

Destiny 2 servers go offline as players get booted from instances a day before raid release
Destiny 2: Lightfall servers suddenly went down last night, as players were experiencing huge login queues, connectivity issues, and abrupt booting into orbit. This comes only a day before The Root of Nightmares raid.
Announced via the official BungieHelp Twitter account, the game was brought down temporarily to “assist in investigations into error codes, inability to log in, and login queues.” The servers are back online now, but with an additional maintenance period due today, fingers are crossed the upcoming raid release goes smoothly.
The community, as you can imagine, is taking this in stride by either sharing their tragic disconnects or creating fresh memes to revel in the chaos. Some users on the Destiny 2 Reddit are pushing out custom gags based on the expansion title, or simply making light of the state of the servers.
The Root Of Nightmares Raid Will Introduce An Ancient Enemy In Destiny 2: Lightfall
Amid raid leaks and spoilers, Bungie took to Twitter to announce the upcoming raid for Destiny 2: Lightfall will be called The Root of Nightmares–which starts on March 10 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET. Players will have 48 hours after its launch to complete the new raid under Contest mode.
Bungie’s official description reads, “Ferried from an unknown time and place, a haunting presence has been detected. We must now confront the ancient threat growing at our doorstep.” The image shows a Fireteam of six Guardians standing inside the Pyramid architecture, but the space is overgrown with strange, pointy flora. It’s unusual to see something so bright and organic inside the Pyramid ship, but the growth of flora was hinted at when the Traveler shoots the Pyramid ship in the Lightfall launch trailer.

Although the developer teased that the new raid deals with an ancient enemy, the title hints that the story might take a deeper look at the paracausal phenomenon of “Nightmares” in Destiny. Players first saw Nightmares on the Moon in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep when the Pyramid ship lying beneath the surface had woken. Several seasons later, Season of the Haunted brought back the Nightmares through Emperor Calus’s Leviathan ship, where the Guardian and Eris Morn helped Zavala, Crow, and Caiatl cope with their grief and stop Calus from joining The Witness. Recently, Season of Plunder introduced relics of a powerful being named Nezarec and hinted at this Disciple’s relation to the Lunar Pyramid.
