Customers’ devices were remotely updated in line with new terms which mean their printers will not work unless they are fitted with approved ink cartridges. It prevents customers from using any cartridges other than those fitted with an HP chip, which are often more expensive. If the customer tries to use a non-HP ink cartridge, the printer will refuse to print.
HP printers used to display a warning when a “third-party” ink cartridge was inserted, but now printers will simply refuse to print altogether.
The printer company said it issued the update to reduce the risk of malware attacks, saying “third-party cartridges that use non-HP chips or circuitry can pose risks to the hardware performance, print quality, and security.” It also said it used regular updates to improve its services, such as introducing alerts for some customers telling them when their ink is running low. However, according to HP’s website, the company also blocks the use of rival cartridges in order to “maintain the integrity of our printing systems, and protect our intellectual property”.
Outraged customers have flooded social media with complaints, saying they felt “cheated” by the update. HP ink cartridges can cost more than double the price of third-party offerings… Some customers can choose to disable HP’s cartridge-blocking feature in the printer’s settings, HP said, but it depends on the printer model. Others will be stuck with a printer that only works if they commit to spending more on ink cartridges approved by HP.

Z1 Extreme who? Ayaneo has just confirmed it will use AMD’s similar but unannounced Ryzen 7000 U-series chips in a new batch of handheld gaming PCs — including the never-before-seen Ayaneo 2S and Ayaneo Geek 1S, the previously announced sliding keyboard Ayaneo Slide, and a new version of the Ayaneo Air Plus.
What’s more, the company is now promising upgrades for its existing PCs instead of just rapidly making them obsolete — it will offer a free speaker upgrade for every Ayaneo Air and a free cooling module for every Ayaneo 2 and Ayaneo Geek that can lower its temperature by up to 12 degrees Celsius.

JON RAHM struck a mighty blow against the LIV upstarts with a Masters triumph that also provided an emotional link to his boyhood idol, Seve Ballesteros.
Rahm easily saw off LIV rebels Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson and Patrick Reed on a day when Seve – who died tragically of brain cancer in 2011 – would have celebrated his 66th birthday.

And this is also the 40th anniversary of the first of Ballesteros’ two Masters victories – ushering in a year where European golfers have consistently punched way above their weight at Augusta.
Seve – who loved to put one over on the Americans, at Augusta and in the Ryder Cup – was the first European winner here.
Rahm became the tenth player from the other side of the Atlantic to pull on a Green Jacket, with that posse of golfing greats sharing 15 victories between them.
Rahm is also the fourth Spanish golfer in that band of brothers, after Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal, and Sergio Garcia.
That is a formidable foursome.
And there were plenty of examples of that famous Spanish flair, as a final round 69 carried the Basque battler – Rahm hails from the northern village of Barrika, population 1,500 – to a four shot victory.
Rahmbo admitted he was very conscious of trying to continue the great Spanish tradition here, as he talked about it before teeing off on Thursday.
He said: “I’m obviously very aware that it’s the 40th anniversary since Seve’s second win out here. So it’s something that’s important to me, right?

Rahm edged out playing partner Brooks Koepka on the final day at Augusta[/caption]
“And I think when Ollie won in 1999, Sergio was making his first start in the Masters, as an amateur. And when Sergio won it was my first Masters as well.
“I hope history repeats itself and I get to win some day.”
This was THAT day
Rahm, 28, rarely had an anxious moment as he swatted aside playing partner Brooks Koepka and dismissed a final day charge from his fellow LIV rebel Mickelson.
Three time Master champion Mickelson stormed into a share of second place with a sensational final round 65.
That was an astonishing performance from a 52-year-old who has shown no form since becoming the oldest Major winner ever at the 2021 USPGA, before accepting a $200million signing on for from LIV’s Saudi Arabian backers
Mickelson even sidestepped last year’s Masters after causing uproar by describing his Saudi paymasters as “scary motherf***ers”.
He can still be a bit frightening himself when he gets the bit between his teeth as a course that has provided him with so many happy memories.
Reed, the 2018 champion, also made a final day run with a closing 68, but had to settle for a share of fourth with Jordan Spieth.
The final day spectators also witnessed an amazing collapse by four-time Major winner Koepka, who only secured joint second with two late birdies, once his shot at the title had gone.
Koepka seemed to have one arm in the green jacket after leading from day one, when he was one of three players to open with a 65.
He took the solo lead two holes into the second round, and was there to be shot at from that point on.
But the writing was on the hole just a few minutes after he returned to the course yesterday morning to complete the 13 holes left from the rain-delayed third round.
Koepka was four shots clear of Rahm at 13 under par – but he faced the nervous prospect of an eleven footer for par at the seventh, while his playing partner had a birdie chance for three feet closer.
Kopeka missed. Rahm made his.
And from that point onward the momentum was always with the world No 3, who was the great hope of a victory for the golfing establishment over the LIV money-grabbers.

Koepka still clung to a two shot lead after 54 holes, but Rahm’s birdie at the third and a bogey from the American at the fourth brought them level.
Another dropped shot at the short sixth menat Kopeka had to look at a leaderboard without his name on top of it for the first time in almost 72 hours.
It did not make for pretty viewing. And neither did his golf as he plunged to four over for his round through 12 holes, to fall three shots off the lead.
It would have been easy to blame the fact that this was a round too far for Koepka, who only has to play three rounds in each event on the breakaway circuit.
But the flying finishes from Mickelson and Reed meant that was no excuse. He was just way below his best.
Rahm knew he did not have to do anything special as the rest failed to land a meaningful blow – but he almost did that anyway, as he went close to chipping in for an eagle at the par five eighth.
Most pundits say the Masters only really begins once the leaders get to the back nine.
Not this time. It was already done and dusted, and Rahm made doubly sure with back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14.
He was simply a class above the rest.

RUSSIAN dissidents are understood to have claimed responsibility for the bombing that killed a Russian propogandist and have warned more is to come.
The underground anti-establishment group, known as the National Republic Army (NRA), have allegedly claimed to be behind the attack on pro-Kremlin blogger Vladlen Tatarsky.

Daria Trepova is seen delivering the Kremlin blogger with the statue[/caption]
Trepova, 26, appeared in court on Tuesday charged with terrorism only hours before dissident Russians allegedly claimed their involvement[/caption]
In a statement published on the Russian social media app Telegram, the group claim to have organised and carried out the bombing attack that tore through a café in central St Petersburg.
They also praise the alleged assassin, Daria Trepova, 26, who they call a “hero” for her role in the fight to overthrow Putin and call on others to follow her “example”.
The bile-monger Tatarsky was holding a media event for 100 people on Sunday when a woman, assumed to be Trepova, handed him a gold TNT-laden figurine of himself.
Chilling footage captures the exact moment the Putin-ally meets his end when the concealed bomb explodes killing him instantly and injuring 30 others.
The female suspect, Trepova, was quickly caught and later pictured aggressively being interrogated by Russians on Monday while chained to a radiator after a strange alleged confession.
On Tuesday, she was paraded in a glass cage in court after being charged with terrorism. The 26-year-old could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.
However, the NRA have now reportedly declared their involvement “in the liquidation of Vladen Tatarsky.”
The shadowy group is considered one of the most violent of those trying to overthrow mad Vlad – but also the most mysterious.
Their manifesto is to destroy the tyrant and free Russia from his grasp.
It contains the definitive line: “Putin will be deposed and destroyed by us!”
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the group rose to prominence through a serious of arson attacks and sabotage missions led against the Russian military from inside their homeland.
The NRA previously claimed to be behind the violent assassination of Darya Dugin – Russian journalist and daughter of Putin’s “spiritual mastermind” Alexander Dugin – in August of last year.
Their alleged new statement reads: “We, the St. Petersburg column of the National Republican Army, declare:
“We organized and carried out an action on April 2, 2023 against a group of Z-activists and personally against the well-known warmonger and war propagandist, war criminal Maxim Fomin, known as Vladlen Tatarsky.”
The group claim they received no outside foreign help and acted “autonomously”, which goes against the shaky claims made by Russian media outlets that Ukraine was responsible for the bombing.
The spokesperson for the group and well-known Russian exile, Ilya Ponomarev, also confirmed the NRA’s claims they masterminded the operation.
“The partisans are resisting the current political system in Russia and want it to be removed”, he told the Express.
“They cannot join the fighting in the military, but they are holding the front inside Russia.”
Ponomarev claims the partisans wanted to make Putin-backing Kremlin elites aware that they are “not safe anymore”.
“The audience is the elites: ‘Beware, you are not safe anymore, Putin is not able to protect you, we are everywhere’,” he says.
The group’s supposed statement continues with: “This action was carried out in a club owned by one of the most famous Russian gangsters and criminals, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
“As a result of the action the club will stop its work. We are satisfied with this.
“The action we carried out was not directed against civilians, and all the victims are among the active supporters of the war, justifying the war crimes of the Putin regime in Ukraine.”
The statement then refers to Trepova as a “well-known figure in the leftist and feminist movement” and a “hero”.
“At a time when many ‘oppositionists’ wrote posts on Facebook and shone flashlights, she fought, went to protests and risked her freedom by participating in all opposition movements that now refuse her.”
The Russian partisan group calls on human rights groups to help the suspect who they see as a “hostage of the system”.
“We call on the people of Russia to follow our example and provide all kinds of resistance to the criminal Russian regime up to its complete destruction.
“Criminals will not feel safe on Russian soil!”
The statement signs off with: “Russia will be free!”
For now, Trepova will remain in Russian custody till June 2 while the trial is ongoing.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said it has charged Trepova with committing “a terrorist act by an organised group that caused intentional death”.
Prosecutors alleged she had acted under instructions from people working on behalf of Ukraine.
Trepova’s husband said he believes she had been framed and had not known the statue contained explosives.
It has previously been claimed Putin personally ordered Tatarsky’s assassination and will use it to crush his rivals.
Telegram channel General SVR – which claims to be fed information by a Kremlin insider – claimed the Russian tyrant was “pleased” with the killing of Tatarsky, and the successful hit will supposedly be used to fuel a new wave of attacks on his opponents.

GARETH TAYLOR hailed Lauren Hemp for helping Manchester City punish Chelsea whilst contending with an ear infection.
Filippa Angeldahl’s angled strike and Hemp’s fierce finish sealed a 2-0 victory halting City’s 11-game winless WSL run against the Blues.
Filippa Angeldahl’s stunning opener paved the way for a hardfought Man City victory against Chelsea[/caption]
The win for Gareth Taylor’s side saw the title race become much tighter with just three points seperating Manchester United and Man City from Arsenal who are fourth[/caption]
Steph Houghton and Lauren Hemp impressed for Gareth Taylor’s against Chelsea[/caption]
It saw Gareth Taylor’s aces go second above Chelsea before their clash with fourth-placed Arsenal this coming Sunday.
The City gaffer said: “We looked dangerous on the break and I was mulling over getting fresh legs on
“But I think sometimes, when you’re in the moment like that, it’s really difficult.
“The one change we made was more because Lauren has been suffering and she didn’t train on Saturday.
“She is suffering with an ear infection and pushed herself to the limit in this game.”
City’s Sunday afternoon win at the Academy Stadium was watched by Usain Bolt.
The Jamaican sprint king is in town to take part in Soccer Aid as captain of a world XI side.
The 100m world-record holder is said to have asked Hemp for her shirt after the game.
And the fleet-footed winger quipped it was a case of “fast meeting faster” in a humorous tweet with a picture of herself and Bolt holding her club jersey.
City defender Esme Morgan said: “Lauren ground away, scored an amazing goal and she does graft so hard.
“She’s always there fighting, pressing and battling, and I’ve heard Usain Bolt just asked for her shirt and she’s just so impressed.
Morgan added: “Lauren came up to me after the game and said ‘Esme, guess who just asked for my shirt?’
“I was racking my head through the Chelsea team thinking, ‘who has she had a battle with who might have wanted it after?’.
“When I couldn’t think of anyone, she said Usain Bolt. I couldn’t believe it! It must be the pace.
Before the match Man City had drawn six and lost five of their last 11 WSL games against Chelsea with their last win registered in May 2017.
The match was watched by Sarina Wiegman with the England boss due to name her squad before the Lionesses’ games against Brazil and Australia in April.
Emma Hayes’ side got off to a fast start in attack with Sam Kerr and Lauren James jetting into the box within the opening two minutes.
But City took control of the first spell taking advantage of a short clearance with Angeldahl firing home an angled 11th-minute opener.
Hemp made it 2-0 nineteen minutes later with a finely struck effort with the visitors facing pressure in the final third.
Chelsea, missing the presence of Millie Bright who is temporarily sidelined by injury, rang the changes before half-time.
James and Sophie Ingle made way for Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Niamh Charles with Hayes shoring up her defence and midfield.
The second spell saw the Blues attempt to boost their attacking efforts with a Maren Mjelde’s injury-time shot over the bar, among their strongest efforts.
Emma Hayes’ side aim to return to winning ways when they face Lyon next in a Champions League quarter-final decider[/caption]
The result saw the title holders fall to their first WSL loss of the season before their Champions League quarters decider with Lyon on Thursday.
Chelsea boss Emma Hayes said:”We’ve got to move on as quickly as possible.
“I don’t think people realise how tough it is to come up here with our third away game in seven days, really really tough.
“We’ve still got a game in hand, we need to maximise that. It’s fantastic for the league that the title race is like this.”
Taylor concurred that the title was still Chelsea’s to lose while acknowledge had taken a huge step forward in their battle to win it.
Gareth Taylor hopes to keep Man City’s title chase momentum going when his team visit Arsenal[/caption]
He added: ‘To be in this position now from where we were is top.
“We’ve not done anything yet, we’ve still got some important games to come, six games left, a lot of challenges in front of us but we go into it with high levels of confidence.
“It’s still Chelsea’s title to lose if we look at it that way but it’s a real positive step for us and gives us great confidence going into this next period.”
Microsoft doesn’t want its rivals to use Bing’s search index to power their AI chatbots, according to a report from Bloomberg. The company reportedly told two unnamed Bing-powered search engines that it will restrict them from accessing Microsoft’s search data altogether if they continue using it with their AI tools.
As noted by Bloomberg, Microsoft licenses out Bing’s search data to several search engines, including DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, and the AI search engine You.com. While DuckDuckGo, for example, uses a combination of Bing and its own web crawler to provide search results, You.com and Neeva also pull some of their results from Bing, helping to conserve some of the time and resources that come along with crawling the entire web.
