Comcast Starts Rolling Out 2-Gigabyte Download Speeds to Millions of US Homes
“Comcast plans on bringing multi-gig internet speeds to 34 cities across the U.S. by the end of this year,” reports the Verge, “and will later expand its reach to more than 50 million households by the end of 2025.”
According to a press release, the company has already started rolling out 2-gig speeds over its broadband network in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Augusta, Georgia; Panama City Beach, Florida; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Customers in these cities will also get to take advantage of upload speeds that Comcast says are five to 10 times faster than what it currently offers. The upload speeds appear to max out at 200Mbps, even with the new Gigabit x2 plan, but Comcast intends to change that. It’s launching multi-gig symmetrical speeds next year, which will enable multi-gig speeds for both downloads and uploads.
“As part of this initiative, Comcast is accelerating the transformation of its network to a virtualized cloud-based architecture that is fully prepared for 10G and DOCSIS 4.0…” explains the press release, “which will deliver multi-gig symmetrical speeds over the connections already installed in tens of millions of homes and businesses.”
The big advantage of digital network technology is “rather than maintaining, updating, and replacing traditional analog network appliances by hand — which can take days or even weeks — Comcast engineers can reliably maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade core network components almost instantly, with a few keystrokes on a laptop or mobile app. This also makes the network much more energy efficient and is an important element of Comcast’s plan to become carbon neutral by 2035.”

Android 13 is rolling out to Pixel phones today
Android 13 is coming out of beta and will start rolling out to Pixels today, with devices from Samsung, ASUS, Nokia (HMD), Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Sony, Xiaomi and more expected to get the update later this year. The latest version of Google’s mobile operating system brings more granular privacy controls, a new photo picker, Bluetooth LE audio and more. Those who want even more personalization from the company’s Material You theme generator may appreciate the additional customized app icons.
One of the more intriguing updates is messaging app streaming, which will let you cast your messaging apps to your Chromebook so you can chat with your friends on your laptop. Google said this works with Messages “and many of your other favorite messaging apps.” Inter-device copy and paste will be getting easier too, with the company saying you’ll “soon be able to copy content — like a URL, picture, text or video — from your Android phone and paste it on your tablet” or the other way around.
There are plenty of small touches that make Android 13 feel refreshed, like an animated progress bar in the updated media playback box on the lock screen, as well as a QR code scanner shortcut. Many other improvements are coming to the L version of Android, which is designed to make navigating larger screened devices more intuitive.
You’ll also find HDR video capability on third-party camera apps, support for braille displays for Google’s screen reader Talkback and an update media output switcher. The company lists more details on what’s changed on its website so you can check them out there.
Luca and Gemma Owen were ‘distant after Love Island cameras stopped rolling’ claims report
LOVE Island’s Luca Bish and Gemma Owen’s appeared to become “distant” once the cameras stopped rolling.
The dressage rider, 19 and the fishmonger, 23, had a rocky relationship in the villa over the course of the eight weeks.
Despite numerous rows, the pair declared their love for each other and managed to secure second place in the final, with Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti being crowned winners.
However, it was revealed that the lovebirds looked less than happy once the Love Island final filming ended.
“As soon as the cameras stopped, they let go of each other, they were no longer holding each other. They sat around the fire pit and were distanced, whereas usually they were all over each other,” an eye-witness told The Mirror.
They explained that Dami was hugging each person in the crew and seemed genuinely interested in chatting to them, but noted that they “didn’t see Luca thank the crew individually”.

The eye-witness continued: “Luca and Gemma hugged everyone but then as soon as they hugged everyone they left. And everybody else stayed, Gemma and Luca just went.
“He said a general thank you to everyone and then left which was fair enough but Dami, especially, walked around to every person and said thank you and it just shows the difference in personalities.”
But, another show insider said: “This couldn’t be further from the truth.
“All of the finalists were in such high spirits last night as they celebrated the final and Davide and Ekin-Su’s win.”

However, viewers were quick to spot Luca’s confused reaction to the result on Monday night.
It comes after Gemma revealed the MAJOR deal-breaker that could end her relationship with Luca.
Gemma said she he needs the approval of her mum and her horse.
Love Island star Gemma, 19, joked that it was vital her fishmonger beau “impressed” her horse Sirius, otherwise it was “game over”.
“Luca needs to impress Sirius,” she joked after their exit from the villa. “If Sirius doesn’t like Luca then it’s pretty much game over!”
“You’ve heard a lot about him haven’t you?” she asked Luca, to which he replied: “Apparently I’ve got to get in the stables with him straight away and see how I react to a massive horse!”
Once Luca has got past the Sirius test, he will also have to impress her mum, Louise Bonsall, who met Luca in the villa last week.
“I’m not nervous for Luca to meet [my family] because I think they’ll get on and he’ll fit straight in,” Gemma said.

“His personality, his banter and what he loves, I think he’ll get on with everyone. But if my mum was like ‘absolutely not’ then I think that would be the end of it.
“I haven’t had a chance to speak to her properly but from the small bits I’ve heard, she’s really happy and likes him.”
