Rumor: New 14-Inch and 16-Inch MacBook Pros Delayed Until Next Year
According to a post from the account “yeux1122” on the Korean blog Naver, citing a supply chain source, the updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will not launch until early next year, around the March timeframe. According to the account, which has a mixed track record, supply chain activities related to the updated MacBook Pros are operating per a schedule suggesting a launch next year, not November.
Historically, Apple has launched new Macs in November multiple times, including the original 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019 and the first three Macs with the M1 chip in 2020, adding credence to the idea new MacBook Pro models were imminent.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has said he expects the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros to be released in the “near future” and “within the coming months” as rumors have suggested a launch in November to follow past precedent. During the company’s latest earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple’s “product lineup is set” ahead of the holidays, possibly suggesting there will be no new product launches this year as Apple gears up for the holiday season.

Rumor: iPhone 14 Pro Display Cutouts Could Appear as a Single Long Pill Shape When Turned On
According to information provided to MacRumors by an anonymous tipster, the discrete pill and hole cutouts are not visually separated when the display is powered on, but in fact appear as one contiguous, longer pill shape.
Rather than stick with the uneven aesthetic, the suggestion is that Apple has chosen to turn off the pixels in the “dead space” between the cutouts in order to create the appearance of a unified pill shape that is less distracting when viewing content on the screen.
In another intriguing twist, the tipster also claims that Apple intends to visually expand the blacked-out areas around the cutouts to host content. For example, Apple could make the area slightly wider to fit status icons on the left and right sides, or even extend it downward into a large rounded square when delivering certain notifications.
MacRumors has discovered chatter across Chinese social media networks, purportedly originating from Foxconn employees involved in iPhone 14 Pro assembly, suggesting the same unified pill software implementation. Like the original tipster, these sources have not been verified and we are only presenting the information up front to our readers with the usual caveats as a topic for discussion.
We’ll know for sure whether this last-minute rumor turns out to be true next Wednesday, September 7, when Apple holds its “Far Out” media event, where it will unveil the new iPhone 14 series. We are expecting a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.7-inch iPhone Max, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. There will be no 5.4-inch iPhone “mini” this year, with Apple instead opting for larger devices.

Sketchy Rumor Suggests 10th-Generation iPad Will Have Touch ID Power Button and Landscape FaceTime Camera
The report cites multiple Chinese sources who claim that alleged renders of the 10th-generation iPad shared earlier this month do not accurately depict the position of Touch ID or the front-facing FaceTime camera on the device.
First, while the renders showed the iPad with a traditional Touch ID home button in the bottom bezel, the report suggests the device could have a Touch ID power button on the top edge of the chassis, like the latest iPad Air and iPad mini models.
Second, the report claims that the FaceTime camera could be positioned in the right bezel of the device for landscape usage. The report says that Apple’s Center Stage feature that helps to keep you centered within the frame during video calls works better when an iPad is placed in landscape orientation, and says that the FaceTime camera’s new position in the right bezel would accommodate this usage scenario.
The report’s sources did claim that the previous renders of the 10th-generation iPad accurately showed the device’s overall dimensions. Previous rumors have suggested the 10th-generation iPad will feature a larger 10.5-inch display, a USB-C port, an A14 Bionic chip, 5G support on cellular models, thinner bezels, and flat edges. By comparison, the ninth-generation iPad features a 10.2-inch display and an A13 Bionic chip.
Mass production of the 10th-generation iPad is reportedly underway. Apple is expected to announce the device at an October event, partly because iPadOS 16 has reportedly been delayed until October, although it’s worth noting that the ninth-generation iPad was unveiled in September last year alongside the iPhone 13 and a new iPad mini.

Sketchy Rumor About ‘iPhone 14 Mini’ and New 10.2-Inch iPad Likely Wrong
The report comes from Evan Blass, who has accurately leaked countless Android smartphones, shared images of the iPhone 12 and HomePod mini before each was announced, revealed that the fourth-generation iPad Air would feature an A14 chip and a USB-C port, and more. Blass is excellent at what he does, but in this case, the latest information that he received is likely inaccurate for a variety of reasons outlined below.
First, reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and many other sources have reported that the iPhone 14 lineup will not include an iPhone 14 mini. Instead, the lineup is said to consist of two 6.1-inch models (the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro) and two 6.7-inch models (the “iPhone 14 Max” and iPhone 14 Pro Max). It’s possible the iPhone 13 mini will remain in Apple’s lineup for a lower price for those who prefer a 5.4-inch screen.
Second, while the report claims that the entry-level iPad will stick with a 10.2-inch display, oft-accurate display industry analyst Ross Young said the 10th-generation iPad will feature a larger 10.5-inch display as part of a rumored redesign of the device.
Third, while the report claims that the Apple distributor is preparing to stock new iPad models in September, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman in his newsletter today said he expects new iPads and Macs to be announced at an October event, including the 10th-generation iPad and iPad Pro models with the M2 chip. Gurman said iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura will be released in October, so new iPads and Macs that month would make sense.
Apple is planning to hold its iPhone 14 event on Wednesday, September 7, according to Gurman, so we’re only a few weeks away from finding out which new devices are coming and when. Apple has yet to officially announce the event.

New rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6 have come to light, with a tipster suggesting that the next entry in the series might include more traditional single-player DLC that GTA V fans called for but never got.
Known GTA tipster Tez2 shared new rumors in a post on GTAForums. Responding to a comment about the reports of how GTA 6 will feature a world that is “expanding over time,” the insider said this means “Rockstar will go back to how they were planning future content before GTA Online success boomed.”
According to Tez2, Rockstar was working on single-player DLC for Grand Theft Auto V but the studio ended these projects and shifted its focus to GTA Online.

iOS 16 Beta 5 Adds Battery Percentage to iPhone Status Bar
Five years after Apple introduced the iPhone X with a notch, and relegated the battery percentage indicator to Control Center, Apple has finally added the battery percentage back to the iPhone’s status bar in the fifth developer beta of iOS 16 released earlier this week.
The new battery icon is available on most iPhone models with a notch. The battery percentage appears within the battery icon to save space, but not everyone is a fan of this design.

Apple Reportedly Preparing Pre-Recorded iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 Event
It appears that Apple’s annual iPhone event won’t be a fully in-person event again this year, as Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman this week claimed that Apple has started to produce a pre-recorded video for the event. It’s possible that Apple will still invite media to the event for in-person hands-on demos with new products.
Unsurprisingly, Apple will likely unveil its iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 product lineups at the September event, and at least five other products are expected to be announced this year.
iPhone 14 Pro Models Rumored to Be More Expensive
Apple plans to increase the prices of iPhone 14 Pro models compared to iPhone 13 Pro models, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
While higher prices would be disappointing for customers, research firm TrendForce predicted that iPhone 14 Pro models could start with 256GB of storage, compared to 128GB for iPhone 13 Pro models. Pricing for iPhone 13 Pro models currently starts at $999 in the United States.

USB-C AirPods Expected to Launch in 2023
Apple plans to switch to USB-C charging cases for all AirPods models in 2023, but the second-generation AirPods Pro launching later this year may still have a Lightning charging case, according to a recent tweet from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo also expects the iPhone 15 to switch to USB-C in 2023, along with several accessories, such as the MagSafe Battery Pack and the Magic Mouse.
‘It’s Time for Apple to Fix Texting’ Says New Android Website
Google’s Android team has launched a new “Get the Message” website that again calls on Apple to adopt Rich Communication Services (RCS) alongside iMessage in the Messages app on iPhone.
Google has been pushing Apple to switch from SMS to RCS for months now, with no response from Apple. RCS would allow for read receipts, audio messages, and more for conversations between iPhones and Android smartphones.
