Breath of the Wild and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are the “new format” for the series
While some fans want Zelda to go back to its classic roots, it sounds like the series will be sticking with its open format for the foreseeable future.
One of the biggest criticisms outside of weapon durability in Breath of the Wild was that it didn’t feel like it had enough of that classic Zelda feel, mostly in relation to the lack of traditional dungeons, and the open world format. While The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom definitely has some more classic style dungeons, it still has that same open world, which isn’t necessarily for everyone. But according to a new interview from Game Informer with series producer Eiji Aonuma and game director Hidemaru Fujibayashi, the open format is here to stay.
In the interview, the point of Ocarina of Time being very foundational for the Zelda series going forward, with Aonuma being asked if Breath of the Wild might act as a similar kind of blueprint for the games going forward. “With Ocarina of Time, I think it’s correct to say that it did kind of create a format for a number of titles in the franchise that came after it.” responded Aonuma.
Furious Tories take aim at Rishi Sunak in series of speeches after local election drubbing
LEADING Tories took aim at PM Rishi Sunak in speeches yesterday.
Liz Truss branded China the “largest threat to the free world” — despite Mr Sunak defying calls to classify the country as such in March.
At the National Conservatism conference in London, Home Secretary Suella Braverman railed against migration and leftie wokeism — two key Tory battlegrounds.
And Jacob Rees-Mogg labelled the PM’s decision to scrap a deadline to ditch thousands of EU laws as “pathetically under-ambitious”.
The PM is under siege after his party lost 1,060 council seats this month.
Last night Sunak continued his international diplomacy blitz in Iceland for a Council of Europe Summit – where he vowed to double down on his migration promises.
The PM is set to say: “It is very clear that our current international system is not working, and our communities and the world’s most vulnerable people are paying the price.
“We need to do more to cooperate across borders and across jurisdictions to end illegal migration and stop the boats.
“I am clear that as an active European nation with a proud history helping those in need, the UK will be at the heart of this.”
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the series’ most successful launch
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is breaking records in the UK, as it’s the biggest Zelda launch ever, and the biggest boxed release of the year.
Tears of the Kingdom being one of the biggest games of the year was an inevitability; Breath of the Wild is one of the most critically acclaimed games ever, and video games are doing better than ever. But now, thanks to GamesIndustry.biz, we know just how big its release was. For one, it’s the biggest boxed release of the year, sitting 54% higher than the previous biggest release – though how good sales are overall, we don’t know, as Nintendo doesn’t share digital sales. Though as noted by GamesIndustry.biz, digital sales are generally much lower than other platforms, so it’s unclear how much better it has done.
Not only that, but it’s the biggest Zelda launch in the series history, with 2.7 times more sales than Breath of the Wild’s launch back in 2017. Breath of the Wild was previously the biggest week one physical release, but Tears of the Kingdom has taken that slot, putting the former in second place, and The Wind Waker in third.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom lets you recreate a classic scene from the animated series
One of the best moments from the original animated Zelda series is possible in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom thanks to the power of Fuse.
Some gameplay spoilers ahead!
While it was before my time, the 1989 Legend of Zelda animated series is perhaps one of the best pieces of television ever made. Is it technically good? No! But Link being unbelievably thirsty for Zelda, constantly attempting to get a smooch from the iconic princess is hilarious every time, especially when someone decided to make this his catchphrase. The thing about the show, though, is that it showed Link doing some wacky things like using his shield to bounce off of a bomb, something you obviously couldn’t do in the original NES game. Well, in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you can do that now!

Joel Edgerton Had To Beg To Get Uncle Owen A Fight Scene On Obi-Wan Kenobi Series
Joel Edgerton’s career has come a long way since he first showed up as Uncle Owen for a couple scenes in the Star Wars prequels. He went from making indie thrillers (very good ones) with his brother Nash in Australia to being an actual movie star in Hollywood. And he apparently used some of that clout to very slightly expand Uncle Owen’s role in last year’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series: by getting him a bit of a fight scene with Moses Ingram’s Inquisitor Reva.
While the character didn’t get a ton of screen time back in the day in the original film when he was played by Phil Brown, it was impossible to forget Uncle Owen–he was one of the first Star Wars characters we ever met, and he and Aunt Beru were the characters who had to die so Luke Skywalker would have a reason not just to leave home but to fight against the Empire.
On the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series, we got to spend more time with Uncle Owen than ever before, during his appearances in the premiere episode and the finale. During both episodes, Owen has to face down Inquisitor Reva–first in Mos Eisley, in public, and then in the finale when Reva is attempting to murder Luke Skywalker at the Lars homestead. And it sounds like Owen put up more of a fight than the show’s producers and writers had originally planned.
