KDE Plasma 6 Gets Better Default Settings to Improve Out-of-the-Box Experience
Some highlights from Nate’s blog post:
– Plasma 6 will default to opening files and folders with a double-click, not a single-click. Even though almost everyone in the room for the discussion actually uses and prefers opening with single-click, we had to admit that it’s probably not the ideal default setting for people who are migrating from other platforms, which is most of them. They can still learn the benefits of single-click later.
– We decided to use the “Thumbnail Grid” Task Switcher by default and make some UI changes…
– We’re going to make a very strong push for Wayland to be the default session type for Plasma 6. The X11 session will still be there of course, and distros will be free to override this and continue defaulting to X11 if they feel like it suits them better. But we want Wayland to be our official recommendation…
– For Plasma 6, we’re going to try a slower release schedule of two per year once we feel like it’s stabilized enough after its initial release. And we’re going to be reaching out to distros with twice-yearly release schedules themselves to see if we can find release dates that will allow all of them to ship the latest version of Plasma soon after it’s released rather than skipping it in favor of something older. Making use of these lengthened release periods, we’re also going to lengthen our Beta releases and update them on a weekly basis, so there’s more time to find and fix bugs.
Nate also shared this explanation for switching to a floating Panel by default:
Microsoft has blatantly copied us in Windows 11, and as a result, people are starting to see Plasma as a cheap clone of Windows again. We see this all the time in the Visual Design Group room… Making the panel float by default provides an immediate visual differentiation from Windows 11 and we hope this will help jolt users’ brains out of “ew, it’s slightly different from Windows 11” mode and into “wow, this is new and cool and I wonder what’s in it” mode.

Overwatch 2 Update Adds Star Wars-Inspired Event, Balance Changes, And Hero-Specific Settings
Overwatch 2’s latest update adds a new limited-time event that has players picking sides in an intergalactic struggle between rebels and an evil empire, alongside a significant batch of balance updates and the addition of hero-specific settings.
From May 9 to May 22, players will be able to queue up and compete as either the Watcher rebels or the Infinite Empire in a new limited-time game mode called Starwatch: Galactic Rescue. Those fighting for freedom will need to escort the rebel leader Bonebreaker (aka Doomfist) as he seeks to free the imprisoned droid 3CH-0 (aka Echo) from the clutches of the empire. The rebels will need to hold various capture points, but it won’t be easy. Players on the side of the Infinite Empire, led by Galactic Emperor Sigma and aided by security turrets, will be there to hold the line. Completing event challenges will unlock various cosmetics, like the Asteroid Wrecking Ball skin, a weapon charm, and more.
While the event is the star of the space-themed update, various balance changes have also been introduced to many of the game’s heroes. As detailed in the official patch notes, those changes include a damage buff to Orisa’s primary weapon, a Biotic Grenade healing nerf for Ana, and an increase to the damage radius of Winston’s Jet Pack ability.

Redfall: PC performance, system requirements and best settings guide
You’ve probably head by now that Redfall is a few virgins short of a vampy picnic, mainly by un-virtue of its undercooked co-operative cryptid blasting. But there are plenty of PC performance problems to contend with as well, despite it getting a helping hand from DLSS and FSR 2.1.

Redfall is playable on Steam Deck — with the right settings
Nearly four hours in, I am not at all convinced that Redfall is a good game — unless there’s a lot of hidden depth, it feels like a rare miss from Arkane.
But unlike that other recent big release, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, you can make it playable on Steam Deck with a few easy tweaks.
I’m not saying it’ll look good, but it’s a heck of a lot better than the default setting!
