Online Games In China See Servers Shutdown In Recognition Of Former President Jiang Zemin’s Memorial Service
All online games in China have been taken offline for the duration of December 6 as part of a day of mourning for former president Jiang Zemin.
Video game market analyst Daniel Ahmad reported the news on Twitter, showing an example of a gaming website rendered black and white as a sign of mourning. Other online and real-world entertainment sites and activities have also shut down in respect for President Zemin, who died from Leukemia last week.
This is not the first time online game servers in China have been shutdown following moments of national tragedy. In April 2020, online play was suspended as part of a nationwide day of mourning for those who died from COVID-19 infections. An similar shutdown observed the 2013 earthquake in Lushan.

Dark Sky Removed From iOS App Store Ahead of Upcoming Shutdown
Apple acquired Dark Sky back in March 2020 and has since incorporated elements of the app into the Weather app available on the iPhone (and soon, the iPad).
Dark Sky remained available for purchase as a standalone weather app after the acquisition, but the app’s developers earlier this year said that the Dark Sky iOS app would no longer be available after December 31, 2022.
The Dark Sky blog suggested that when the app became unavailable at the end of 2022, already purchased versions would cease providing weather data, but as of now the app still works. It is not entirely clear if the removal of Dark Sky is actually some kind of glitch or if Apple has simply pulled it early.
While the Dark Sky app is officially shutting down at the end of December, the Dark Sky API and website will function until March 21, 2023. Developers who use the Dark Sky API can transition over to Apple’s WeatherKit API.

Iran’s Internet Shutdown Hides a Deadly Crackdown
Despite promising that servers won’t shutdown, Babylon’s Fall is, in fact, shutting servers down
PlatinumGames has announced this morning that development will not continue on Babylon’s Fall, and that the game’s live services are being terminated. This also means, given that Babylon’s Fall is an online-only game, that no one will be able to play it once servers are shutdown.
The developer announced February 27, 2023 as the last day anyone will be able to play the online action RPG, meaning Babylon’s Fall will have lasted less than a year since its release in March this year.
“With the desire of delivering an exhilarating online multiplayer action RPG set in an elaborate high fantasy world, we launched the game’s official service on Thursday, March 3, 2022, and have continued to undertake additional development and operations,” said PlatinumGames in an official statement.
