Three issues with generative AI still need to be solved
Disclosure: Qualcomm and Microsoft are clients of the author.
Generative AI is spreading like a virus across the tech landscape. It’s gone from being virtually unheard a year ago to being one of, if not the, top trending technology today. As with any technology, there are issues that tend to surface with rapid growth, and generative AI is no exception.
I expect three main problems to emerge before the end of the year that few people are talking about today.
The critical need for a hybrid solution
Generative AI uses massive language models, it’s processor-intensive, and it’s rapidly becoming as ubiquitous as browsers. This is a problem because existing, centralized datacenters aren’t structured to handle this kind of load. They are I/O-constrained, processor-constrained, database-constrained, cost-constrained, and size-constrained, making a massive increase in centralized capacity unlikely in the near term, even though the need for this capacity is going vertical.

How Greenland Solved the Daylight Saving Time Debate
On March 25, Greenland will move its clocks forward one hour to UTC -2 time zone for the summer, just as it has done in the past. Except starting this year, it will stay in that time zone for good. No more suffering through twice-yearly clock changes; come October, Greenland won’t roll back to standard time like they will in the rest of Europe and the US….
For residents in areas of the island that are below the Arctic Circle, it will mean one hour of light later in the day — although as a tourist you’re not likely to notice the difference given the seasonal extremes of sunrise and sunset. The capital city, Nuuk, may see up to 20 hours of sunlight in summer, but only gets about four hours of sunlight in the winter, for instance….The main argument in Greenland in favor of the change: It’s a chance to be closer to European business hours, which would benefit the economy, explains Tanny Por, head of international relations at Visit Greenland.

ChatGPT Solved A Fortnite Mystery
Fortnite content creator Hypex has used ChatGPT, an AI service, to help figure out Fortnite’s latest cipher teasing the upcoming season.
Fortnite is no stranger when it comes to uploading cryptic messages for the community to figure out. The latest message was posted on the official Fortnite Status Twitter account. In the tweet is a series of numbers, followed by a status update on when an update will begin. Followed by details on the game’s forthcoming patch.

Shortly after that tweet was posted, Hypex announced that he was able to figure out the code. In the tweet, he credits ChatGPT, revealing that the numerical cipher actually reads, “CRACK THE CODE.” Even though this clue is a bit vague, it does align with Fortnite’s Most Wanted Event, which is themed all around thieves and heist-like items that players can unlock for free if they complete specific challenges before February 28. This is likely the first of many teasers that’ll point to Chapter 4, Season 2, which is expected to launch sometime after March 8, the last day of the current season.
