Sega’s April Fool’s joke has become its best-rated Sonic game on PC
Is The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog Steam Deck compatible?
Is The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog Steam Deck compatible? Sega just killed off everyone’s favourite blue mascot using a visual novel, and you can download it for free on Steam. However, just like an Agatha Christie book, you’re probably wondering whether you can enjoy The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog while on a train, and we’ve got great news for handheld PC players.
Surprise killing Sonic the Hedgehog shows why he’s lived so long
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is absolutely brilliant. Released as a free game on Steam to coincide with the many April Fool’s jokes our industry puts out, Sega and Sonic’s social team has once again proved that they completely understand the characters, fanbase, and reason why the series sticks around so much. Despite repeated attempts to kill him, Sonic The Hedgehog refuses to die.
Sonic The Hedgehog was murdered and you can solve the mystery
Sonic The Hedgehog has been murdered – and not by negative reviews, for a change. Instead it’s the precipitating event at the beginning of The Murder Of Sonic The Hedgehog, a short, free visual novel released by Sega for April Fool’s Day.
Sonic the Hedgehog was murdered
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is a new, real, and free game you can play right now
Oh, Mario went missing once? Big deal — Sonic’s just been murdered!
In a very sudden, very confusing surprise, Sega has shadow dropped a new Sonic the Hedgehog game for PC and Mac. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, as baffling as that sounds, is a free murder mystery game on Steam you can download and play right now. The point-and-click adventure puts you amid the Sonic cast on a murder mystery party aboard the Mirage Express to celebrate Amy Rose’s birthday, but — gasp — the game turns out to be real as Sonic is found keeled over, dead on the floor.
I’m no fan of silly April Fools’ gags, but I’m all for lighthearted and weird headcanon experiments. So credit to Sega…
Sega Killed Sonic As An April Fool’s Treat
Sonic is dead, according to Sega’s new release, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. The game is an April Fool’s gift, and The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is free on Steam.
The game takes a visual novel format and opens with Sonic dying on the Mirage Express during Amy Rose’s murder mystery party held to celebrate her birthday. It’s up to you, the player, to find out who killed Sonic and what sinister things are afoot.
As for whether this game is canononical, the answer is no. “This is not a Sonic Team title, but we strongly believe in the power of headcanon,” the Steam description says.
Sonic Frontiers free update adds Photo Mode, newly added features, and more
The first of three free content updates for Sonic Frontiers has been released, and it comes with newly added features and modes.
Dubbed the Sights, Sounds, and Speed update, it includes a Photo Mode and a Juke Box that allows you to play your favorite tracks while exploring the Starfall Islands. It includes tracks from Sonic Frontiers and past Sonic games. Totaling 53 songs, 13 are instantly unlocked and playable as soon as the game is updated. You can unlock the remaining 40 songs by collecting Sound Memories across the five islands, denoted by orange notes.
Included in the update are new Challenge Modes to test your skill, and they can be played after finishing the campaign.
Playable Amy is great, but Sonic Origins Plus is pointless if it doesn’t address the original’s problems
Sonic Origins should’ve been a home run. A slam dunk. A punt return for touchdown. A midfield bicycle kick that shears the keeper’s body in two to slam into the back of the net. Four of the greatest games of all time. How could you possibly go wrong? “Hold my chilli dog,” said Sega. It was a mess.
I wrote about it at the time, calling the game a “masterclass in messing up a classic”. The problems were numerous. A lot of people decided to focus on the unfortunate but legally necessary removal of the iconic Sonic 3 music associated with Michael Jackson, but there were other problems.
Bugs. Resource-hogging on PC. Bizarre oversights, like the inability to play the games with their original lives structure. A blurry presentation thanks to poor, pixel-suffocating image scaling. In some instances, even Tails’ player 2 AI was messed up – something that is meant to follow you through every level of over half of the experience.
