Twitter’s source code is published online – forcing Elon Musk’s firm to immediately file a lawsuit
Portions of Twitter’s source code were reportedly leaked online
In yet another embarrassing development for new Twitter boss Elon Musk, court filings published Friday reveal that portions of the social media site’s source code — the base programming that makes Twitter possible — have been leaked online, the New York Times reports.
Per court filings, Twitter claimed copyright infringement in an effort to have the offending code taken down from the Github collaborative programming network, where it had been posted. While the code was removed the same day, details as to how long the code had been left up were not made available, nor were the leak’s scope or depth. As part of the takedown request reminiscent of Raytheon’s famous — failed — attempt at court-sanctioned doxxing, Twitter also asked the US District Court for the Northern District of California to order Github to reveal both the identity of the user who posted the code and those who accessed and downloaded it.
The NYT reports that, per sources within the company privy to the internal investigation into the leak, Twitter executives strongly suspect it’s the work of a disgruntled employee who had left, “within the last year.” Coincidentally, Elon Musk purchased Twitter last October for the eye-watering price of $44 billion and proceeded to lay-off and otherwise lose 80 percent of the company’s staff, not the 75 percent that everybody feared Musk would enact in the run-up to his purchase.
The executive who spoke with the NYT are primarily concerned that revelations gleaned from the stolen code could empower future hacking efforts, either by revealing new exploits or allowing bad actors to access Twitter user data. If the increasingly temperamental page functionality wasn’t enough to send the site’s user base running for the hills that the site’s resurgence of scammers and white nationalists since Elon’s takeover didn’t already scare off, will the threat of outright hacking be the final straw for advertisers and users alike?

‘Docker is Deleting Open Source Organisations’
1. Paid team plans cost 420 USD per year (paid monthly)
2. Many open source projects including ones I maintain have published images to the Docker Hub for years
3. Docker’s Open Source program is hostile and out of touch
Why should you listen to me? I was one of the biggest advocates around for Docker, speaking at their events, contributing to their projects and being a loyal member of their voluntary influencer program “Docker Captains”. I have written dozens if not hundreds of articles and code samples on Docker as a technology. I’m not one of those people who think that all software and services should be free. I pay for a personal account, not because I publish images there anymore, but because I need to pull images like the base image for Go, or Node.js as part of my daily open source work. When one of our OpenFaaS customers grumbled about paying for Docker Desktop, and wanted to spend several weeks trying to get Podman or Rancher Desktop working, I had to bite my tongue. If you’re using a Mac or a Windows machine, it’s worth paying for in my opinion. But that is a different matter. Having known Docker’s new CTO personally for a very long time, I was surprised how out of touch the communication was. More: Docker: We apologize. We did a terrible job announcing the end of Docker Free Teams..

Elon Musk Says Twitter Will Open Source Its Recommendation Code on March 31
Elon Musk seems to be close to making good on his promise to open-source Twitter’s code. Well, at least part of it.
In a post on the social media platform, the Twitter CEO announced that the company will open-source the code used to recommend tweets on March 31. Musk did not provide any other details about how that will work or specifically when on that date the code will be provided.
Musk has been teasing and promising open-sourcing Twitter’s code for a while now, so it’ll be interesting to see what the impact is…

CSGO Source 2 conspiracy theory makes a bizarre kind of sense
Valve has made a lot of changes to Steam this week, which point to either CSGO Source 2, or a full-blown Counter-Strike 2 release date. While it seems clear that something is going on with the seminal multiplayer FPS game – owing to new files and executables appearing online named ‘CS2’ – we still don’t know precisely what the Counter-Strike team has up its special forces sleeves. A new conspiracy theory however, based on Steam sales, the upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC), and, um, The Office, makes a startling kind of sense.

All-Open Source 7-Inch MNT Reform Pocket Laptop Ships In October
Like the full-size Reform, the pocket version uses open source hardware and a mechanical keyboard (buyers can choose either white or red Kalih switches). But the pocket version uses a 7-inch 1920×1200 LCD screen instead of a 12.5-inch version and comes with fewer and smaller ports (two USB-C, one micro HDMI, a microSD port, and one ix industrial mini Ethernet port). Its keyboard also comes with an individually programmable RGB backlight, and its trackball-style pointing device has been downsized to fit into the smaller design. The Pocket Reform also includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, 128GB of built-in eMMC storage, and an expansion slot for 4G cellular connectivity. The device will also boot from microSD cards or an NVMe SSD installed in the device’s M.2 slot. Its 8000 mAh batteries will allow it to run for about four hours. MNT warns in its blog post that “risks and challenges” could delay the October shipping timeline:
“Pocket Reform has hundreds of electronic components. We tried to pick them so that there will be enough stock when we get around to manufacturing the boards, but it’s always possible that there could be a sudden component shortage or increase in price. If that should happen, we would have to re-engineer the affected PCB and exchange the part, causing a delay in continued production. We had to adapt our products several times during the global chip crisis, so we are confident that we’ll be able to work around any difficulties. Should any situation arise that would delay the estimated shipping timeline, backers will be informed promptly via project updates.”

CSGO Source 2 looks almost certain as Valve adds ‘CS2’ to Steam
A new CSGO, of some description, is almost certainly on its way. Especially during the last few days, Valve has made numerous updates to the Steam backend of its flagship FPS game. Potentially, this could signal a revamped, new-engine version of the multiplayer shooter in the form of CSGO Source 2. Alternatively, the long-speculated Counter-Strike 2 release date could be upon us – with the latest update, which adds an executable marked ‘CS2’ that possibility may seem more likely. But we need to play it cool. Here’s the latest on the new CSGO.

CSGO Source 2 beta could be soon, as Valve makes private Steam updates
A new series of updates, posted by Valve to the backend of CSGO on Steam, hint at the possibility that a CSGO Source 2 beta could be coming soon. Previously, rumours have circled regarding the FPS game and the potential launch of a full CS2. Although a complete sequel might be wishful thinking, it looks increasingly like CSGO Source 2 could be just around the corner.
