‘SNL’ host Quinta Brunson stars in spoof Netflix bridesmaid cult documentary
In Saturday Night Live’s new and disturbing documentary, the streaming service covers what it’s like to be a bridesmaid. Oh, my knees just shivered thinking about it.
Guest host Quinta Brunson stars in this spoof on true crime cult documentaries as a woman who was unfortunate enough to be chosen as a bridesmaid. She and her group of friends recount on the experience and lament the worst 18 weeks of their life.
“Each year more than 6 million women fall into this type of cult,” says cult expert Greg Lawrence (James Austin Johnson). “They prey on vulnerable groups like college roommates and sisters-in-law.”
The experience of being a bridesmaid includes passive-aggressive communication from the bride, a controlling lieutenant aka the maid of honor, and everything from financial intimidation and weirdly sexual bachelorette trips to Nashville.
“I spent $300 on a bridesmaid dress,” Brunson says. “The bride swore I would find other times I would wear it, but like where am I going that calls for a floral-length light blue Chauvin gown with a modest neckline?”
The AI-powered Seinfeld spoof is set to return to Twitch with new guardrails in place
Nothing, Forever, an AI-powered Seinfeld spoof show on Twitch, was quickly becoming the next big thing on the platform. During the always-on stream, a cast of Seinfeld-adjacent characters had befuddling conversations, made weird jokes, and moved through a world of crude, blocky graphics, all backed by a laugh track and directed by AI.
But then it was suspended for two weeks after the Jerry Seinfeld-like character made transphobic remarks. That suspension is set to lift on Monday, and while its creators at Mismatch Media have been working to make sure transphobic comments won’t happen again, they can’t guarantee it.
The transphobic remarks happened after Mismatch changed the AI models underpinning the stream. “We started having an outage…
Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Kieran Culkin reprise their ‘Father of the Bride’ roles in ‘SNL’ spoof
Steve Martin and Martin Short reprised their iconic Father of the Bride characters, George Banks and wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer, respectively, in a spoof on Saturday Night Live.
In Father of the Bride 8, the titular bride, Annie Banks (Heidi Gardner), is ready to give marriage an eighth shot, but the Banks are understandably financially and emotionally drained. The parody plays with the premise of the classic 1991 Nancy Meyer rom-com and riffs on endless franchises. Chloe Fineman tests out her Diane Keaton impression as the mother of the bride, Nina, who became a Lyft driver to pay for the weddings and Kieran Culkin shows up to remind us that he played Annie’s kid brother all those years ago, and grown Matty Banks still talks like a child.
Martin and Short’s Only Murders in the Building co-star, Selena Gomez, popped in to name her price as a wedding singer ($1.8 million) rounding out the star-studded sketch.
