Wild west adventure Card Cowboy turns cards into weird and silly stories
Hop on your horse and head out for revenge in Card Cowboy, a delightful new indie game you can get for free. Your adventure unfolds by making decisions using cards which represent allies, resources, and events, which often have weird and surprising consequences. Weirdly, the game it most reminds me of is Townscaper: throw pieces together, uncertain what will happen, then be surprised and delighted what the system produces. Like accidentally making your cowboy confess his love for his horse, leading to a fresh new baby horse card in your hand. Oh no.

iPhone 14 Pro Display Cutouts Said to Appear as Single Pill
iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to feature new pill-shaped and circular cutouts instead of a notch, but last-minute rumors this week have claimed that iOS 16 will make the cutouts appear as one wider pill-shaped cutout by displaying black pixels between them.
According to an anonymous tipster in the MacRumors forums, the black space between the pill-shaped and circular cutouts on iPhone 14 Pro models will be used to display privacy indicators — the orange and green dots that indicate when an app is actively using the iPhone’s camera and/or microphone.
While this tip has yet to be confirmed, it certainly would be a practical design choice and would closely mirror the bright green light that appears next to a Mac’s webcam when it is being used.
Apple and Globalstar Rumored to Announce Satellite Connectivity Feature for iPhone 14
Apple may announce its long-rumored satellite connectivity feature for the iPhone 14 in partnership with Globalstar next month, according to Tim Farrar, a satellite communications consultant.
In a series of tweets, Farrar said T-Mobile’s and SpaceX’s satellite connectivity announcement last week was likely intended to pre-empt Apple’s announcement of its own satellite connectivity feature for the iPhone at its September 7 event, which features the tagline “Far Out” with starry sky artwork.
Apple has indeed completed testing of satellite connectivity on iPhone 14 models, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Samsung Throws Shade at Apple Ahead of iPhone 14 Launch
In a new ad ahead of the iPhone 14, Samsung mocked the lack of “innovation” on the iPhone while promoting features such as a 108-megapixel camera and 100x “Space Zoom” on its latest devices.
“This innovation is not coming soon to an iPhone near you,” the ad quips, in reference to features already available on Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone and foldable Z Flip4.
‘Apple Watch Pro’ Rumored to Feature Larger 47mm Case Size With Flat Display
The so-called “Apple Watch Pro” will feature a larger 47mm case size with a flat display, according to a recent report from Japanese website Mac Otakara. By comparison, all Apple Watch Series 7 models are available in 41mm and 45mm case sizes.
Other features expected for the “Apple Watch Pro” include a rugged design with a titanium case, longer battery life, an expanded Low Power Mode, an S8 chip, and more.
Major Retailer Preparing for Launch of 2022 iPad Pro Models
While the iPhone and Apple Watch are expected to be the focus of Apple’s September event, rumors suggest the company will hold another event in October revolving around the iPad and Mac.
Ahead of time, at least one major retailer appears to be preparing for the launch of new iPad Pro models, which are rumored to feature Apple’s latest M2 chip, MagSafe wireless charging, and more.

Immortality review: a peeling apart of stories, power and film that can’t quite balance on a knife edge
Drumroll, please, for the latest interactive, live action, film archival puzzle from Sam Barlow, of Her Story and Telling Lies. This latest rumination on voyeurism also delves into storytelling, sex, death, religion, love, lust, lies, pretence (as distinct from acting), power and self. That’s a lot to pack into the partial, out of order clips of three different films, which manage to span both decades and careers. The central figure is Marissa Marcel, an almost-star actor who made three movies before disappearing. So the question you strive to answer, by looking through unedited takes and rehearsal footage, is: what happened to Marissa Marcel?
In typical Barlow fashion, the entirety of the footage isn’t easily spooled through. From one starting clip you’re able to watch it, flick back and forth through the recording, and pause it to use the in-game search tool to focus on a face or object on screen. Selecting it will then take you to that face or a similar object in a different clip, and eventually you build up a much fuller catalogue of footage.
Now. Immortality also talks quite a bit about sex, in various ways and for various reasons, and there is female nudity. So yes, you can enhance! Zoom! on a tit. And the game will take you to another clip featuring a similar tit. Ba-dum, tsh!
Top Stories: Apple Event Announced, iPadOS 16 Officially Delayed, and More
Other news this week included confirmation from Apple that iPadOS 16 has been delayed a bit and will not launch alongside iOS 16 next month, an expansion of Apple’s Self Repair Program to the Mac, and fresh rumors about the iPhone 14 lineup and upcoming MacBook Pro models, so read on for details on these stories and more!
Apple Announces September 7 Event With ‘Far Out’ Tagline
Apple this week announced that it will be holding an in-person event on Wednesday, September 7 at Steve Jobs Theater. As usual, the event is expected to revolve around new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 models, and we should get release dates for iOS 16 and watchOS 9.
Rumors suggest Apple plans to release numerous devices by the end of the year, including new models of the iPad, iPad Pro, Mac mini, Mac Pro, Apple TV, AirPods Pro, and more, so there’s always a chance that at least one or two of these products also gets announced at the September event.
Apple is also expected to hold an October event this year, so it should be a busy fall season for the company as usual.
Apple Confirms iPadOS 16 is Delayed and Will Launch as iPadOS 16.1
Following a report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman that claimed iPadOS 16 will be released in October, Apple has confirmed that the software update will in fact be released later than usual.
Instead of iPadOS 16.0, Apple said the update will be released as iPadOS 16.1 at some point after the release of iOS 16 for the iPhone.
iOS 16 is still expected to be released for the iPhone in September as usual.
Apple Expands Self Service Repair Program to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro
Apple this week expanded its Self Service Repair program to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models equipped with the M1 series of chips, providing customers in the U.S. with access to select parts, manuals, and tools to complete do-it-yourself repairs.
While the program’s expansion is good news for the right-to-repair movement, repair website iFixit said the program actually manages to make MacBooks “seem less repairable.”
Images Allegedly Show Real iPhone 14 Pro Display Cutouts and Status Bar Items
With the iPhone 14 Pro display expected to gain a new pill-and-hole-punch design rather than a notch, it looks like there will be some changes to how iOS handles the front camera system on the new models.
Leaked photos and screenshots suggest the cellular/Wi-Fi/battery indicators in the status bar will move slightly down and to the right to better line up with the new camera system design.
New 14-Inch and 16-Inch MacBook Pro Expected to Enter Mass Production This Year
New 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a tweet, Kuo said the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models may still have chips based on TSMC’s latest 5nm process given that TSMC’s financial guidance indicated that the company will not begin to receive revenue from 3nm chip production until 2023.
iPhone Mini Fans: What to Look Out for When the iPhone 14 Models Launch
While rumors suggest there won’t be an iPhone 14 mini this year, due to lackluster sales of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini, fans of Apple’s smaller 5.4-inch smartphone will still have options.
Check out our article on what iPhone mini fans should look out for following the iPhone 14 launch for an overview of purchase options going forward, including the third-generation iPhone SE and more.

A Year Of Springs dev npckc “never planned” on making games, but wanted to tell kinder LGBTQ+ stories
To call the current state of the world today ‘tumultuous’ would be a bit of an understatement. For LGBTQ+ people – and trans people in particular – the increasingly extreme rhetoric and legislation being weaponised against these communities can feel all-consuming. Yet it comes at a time when diverse representation in media, including games, is improving. As the number of characters stated to LGBTQ+ grows, what is more effective representation: making it possible to see your own experiences on screen, or make those experiences understandable to someone who isn’t LGBTQ+?
People who know of it would perhaps cite the work of developer and translator npckc, who I recently spoke with at the recent Japanese indie gaming event Bitsummit. They were there to showcase their latest game A Pet Shop After Dark, a departure from visual novels like A Year Of Springs trilogy into horror storytelling (“more spooky than outright horror,” as they later clarified) that’s set to release later this month. Beyond the trilogy and their newest work, they’ve translated the works of other developers and worked on other smaller games and game jam projects.
Top Stories: iPhone 14 Event Targeted for September 7, iOS 16 Beta 6, and More
This week also saw the release of a sixth beta of iOS 16 with continued tweaks as Apple starts to lock things in ahead of the iPhone event and a public release of iOS 16 next month. iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura likely aren’t coming until October, and that’s probably a good thing as they still seem a bit rough around the edges, so read on for all the details on the biggest stories of the week!
Apple Planning to Hold iPhone 14 Event on September 7
We’re just a matter of weeks away from Apple’s annual iPhone event, which is planned for Wednesday, September 7 this year, according to a report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
iPhone events are often held on Tuesdays, but Monday, September 5 is the Labor Day holiday in the United States, so Apple likely pushed the event to Wednesday to provide a one-day buffer. iPhone events have occurred on Wednesday four times in the past.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 14, Apple Watch Series 8, and more with a pre-recorded event video.
Everything Rumored for Apple’s September Event: iPhone 14, Apple Watch Pro and More
While the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 will likely be the headline product unveilings at Apple’s September event, there could be other announcements, including an iOS 16 release date and more.
For the latest rumors, check out our list of everything expected at Apple’s September event. As it often does, it’s also likely that Apple will hold another event in October this year focused on iPad and Mac announcements.
Apple Watch Series 3 vs. Series 8: 20 Major New Features and Changes to Expect if Upgrading
Given that the Apple Watch Series 3 is incompatible with watchOS 9, users with a Series 3 may be considering upgrading to the Apple Watch Series 8, which is expected to be announced next month.
For customers who are considering upgrading from the Apple Watch Series 3 to the Series 8, we’ve put together a list of 20 new features and changes to expect. Also see our Apple Watch SE vs. Apple Watch Series 8 comparison.
AirPods Pro 2: Five New Features to Expect
Apple’s second-generation AirPods Pro are finally nearing launch, with a release expected later this year. If you are considering upgrading to the new AirPods Pro once they are released, check out our list of five new features and improvements to expect.
In addition to having some all-new features, the new AirPods Pro will likely adopt some features first added to the third-generation AirPods last year.
iOS 16 Beta 6 Released With Changes to New Battery Icon in Low Power Mode
Apple this week released the sixth beta of iOS 16. The latest beta mainly includes bug fixes and other under-the-hood improvements, but it does make a notable change to the new battery percentage icon while Low Power Mode is activated on an iPhone.
Apple also released iOS 15.6.1, iPadOS 15.6.1, and macOS 12.5.1 with important security fixes for WebKit and kernel vulnerabilities. Apple said it is aware of a report that the vulnerabilities may have been actively exploited, so updating is recommended.
System Settings App in macOS Ventura Beta Still Riddled With UI Issues
Apple’s redesigned System Settings app in macOS Ventura, which replaces System Preferences on macOS Monterey and earlier, still has several user interface issues even in recent beta versions.
As noted by developer Niki Tonsky on Twitter, the System Settings app has inconsistent use and erratic behavior of basic UI elements like dropdown menus and buttons, misaligned text and poorly sized windows, menu titles that are cut off by menu windows, misplaced content, and more.
macOS Ventura is still in beta, so the System Settings app may see improvements by time the update is released later this year.
