Giant Storks Lived With Mysterious Hobbit Humans – Mysterious Universe
Paul Seaburn weaves a fascinating story based upon a study published in the journal Royal Society Open Science by University of Bergen paleontologist Hanneke Meijer on extinct giant storks, Leptoptilos robustus, from the island of Flores in Indonesia. Flores, of course, was also said to be the home of an ancient diminutive human species, Homo floresiensis, commonly referred to as “hobbits.â€ Apparently, according to Meijer, the giant storks relied on the tiny humans for a large part of their diet! Which leads Seaburn to wonder: “Did their [hobbit] folklore contain tales of giant storks bringing babies … or carrying away adult hobbits?” It certainly seems possible since the myth of giant storks carrying little children exists in so many parts of the world.
