Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon are teaming up to produce new animated DC projects
Warner Bros. Discovery’s television-focused production arm is partnering with Amazon Studios to create new animated projects based on DC Comics’ IP, yet another sign of how the company is changing under CEO David Zaslav’s leadership.
During a keynote session at C21Media’s annual Content London event this week, Warner Bros. Television Studios chairwoman Channing Dungey opened up about some of the new moves the company plans to make as part of Zaslav’s vision for its future. According to Variety, Dungey expressed excitement for her division in particular, and pointed to Zaslav’s openness to collaborating with outside production outfits as one of the major reasons why. Unlike the old guard who felt like “everything has to stay in-house; we…
Ubisoft and Riot are teaming up to tackle toxic online chat with AI, but big questions remain over how it’s going to work
Do you ever feel like multiplayer games would be better if other players were less abusive? Ubisoft and Riot Games are looking into training artificial intelligence to tackle bad behaviours within in-game chat, a research collaboration they’re calling Zero Harm In Comms. Ahead of their announcement today, I put some questions to Ubisoft La Forge’s executive director Yves Jacquier and Riot’s head of technology research Wesley Kerr to get some more insight on the joint project, and ask them exactly how their proposal will work.
Ubisoft Is Teaming Up With Green Game Jam To Fight Climate Change–Here’s How Players Can Help
Ubisoft has announced that it will participate in the 2022 Green Game Jam hosted by Playing for the Planet Alliance throughout November. Green Game Jam is an industry event dedicated to helping the environment in various ways, such as green activations and reducing emissions. With the theme for this year being food, forests, and our future, the following Ubisoft games will be participating in the event: Brawlhalla, Hungry Shark World, Rocksmith+, and Trackmania.
Brawlhalla players can purchase an in-game emote from November 2 to December 14, and once it’s purchased, their character plants a small Yggdrasil tree. All proceeds spent on the emote will go to Ecologi, an organization dedicated to working on reforestation projects. On November 18, the Brawlhalla team will have a 12-hour charity stream to help One Tree Planted, a charity devoted to replanting forests.
The Hungry Shark World team has partnered with Glowing Glowing Gone, a campaign that aims to strengthen ocean protection and climate actions. From November 8 to November 30, players can try a new mode called Protect the Baby Shark.
Hertz and BP are teaming up to create a network of EV chargers in the US
Hertz and BP are joining forces to build a network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers throughout the US (via Engadget). The initiative should help support Hertz’s growing fleet of EV vehicles, as the rental car company recently announced plans to purchase a total of over 300,000 EVs from Tesla, Polestar, and GM.
Details about the project are still pretty slim, and the two companies haven’t indicated how many charging stations they plan on building, how long it could take, or how much money either side is committing to the project. But we do know that Hertz is working with BP Pulse, the oil giant’s EV branch, to build out “a network of fast-charging hubs” with the goal of serving both Hertz customers and everyday EV drivers.

Rivian and Mercedes are teaming up to build electric vans more quickly
Rivian and Mercedes-Benz are teaming up with the aim of building large electric vans more quickly. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a strategic partnership and set up a joint venture manufacturing company. They’re hoping to use their shared resources to reduce costs and make electric vans more affordable while ramping up production.
The goal is to produce two vans on common assembly lines. One would be based on Mercedes‑Benz Vans’ VAN.EA architecture. The other would center around Rivian’s second-gen Rivian Light Van platform. The two sides will also look into “further options for increased synergies.”
The companies aim to build the EVs in a new factory at an existing Mercedes-Benz site in central or eastern Europe, starting in a few years. The plan isn’t set in stone, though, as Rivian and Mercedes-Benz haven’t reached a binding agreement and they would need to clear regulatory hurdles.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Mercedes‑Benz on this project,” Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said in a statement. “Mercedes‑Benz is one of the world’s best known and respected automotive companies, and we believe that together we will produce truly remarkable electric vans which will not only benefit our customers, but the planet.”
Both companies have already been working on electric vans, with Rivian having an agreement to build 100,000 of them for Amazon. However, Rivian has endured some turmoil in recent months. It’s not building EVs quickly enough to meet demand. It recently laid off six percent of employees in order to funnel more resources into building vehicles. The company is setting up a second EV factory in Georgia, but production won’t start there until 2024. Teaming up with Mercedes to create common production lines could help it to build electric vans faster.
From Mercedes’ perspective, this is part of a broader strategy to accelerate the transition to electric vans. The company said it is revamping its European production setup and that, by the middle of this decade, all of its new vans will be entirely electric.
