“The community – they can’t control what I do” Excommunicated Smash Pro announces tournament
Former Smash Bros pro player Zero has announced his intentions to run his own tournament, years after they were banned from the vast majority of tournaments due to allegations of sexual misconduct.
Explained briefly in a four minute video titled “I honestly can’t believe I’m doing this…”, Zero states that he’ll begin hosting his own tournament “based on popular request”. This comes following a joke tweet last year where he mused the idea of running a tournament with other banned players called the Banned Series. While this was in jest, Zero would acknowledge that certain banned players would be allowed to take part based on his own judgement.
However, this event would be far from a free-for-all between the entire cast of banned players. Zero explicitly states that the attendence of certain players would depend largely on whether he believes their bans were justified. He states: “My objective is not to necessarily host a tournament just to invite a bunch of criminals and a bunch of people who are banned, because the reality is that there are people who are banned who did terrible things.”

Dota 2’s The International tournament is returning to Seattle this year
Dota 2’s biggest tournament will return to Seattle this year
For the first time since 2017, The International, Dota 2’s most prestigious tournament, will take place in Valve’s hometown. The tournament will kick off with a group stage that begins on October 14th before moving to Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena on October 27th, the studio announced on Saturday. The Climate Pledge Arena, previously known as KeyArena, is the same venue where Valve held The International between 2014 and 2017. It’s also the venue where Dota fans got to see one of the best plays in the tournament’s history.
In 2018, Valve moved The International to Vancouver’s Rogers Arena due to the start of multi-year renovations at KeyArena. In subsequent years, the event made stops in China, Romania and Singapore. Valve had also planned to bring the tournament to Sweden, but the pandemic forced the studio to cancel The International in 2020. On Saturday, Valve said The International 2023 would host the event’s largest audience to date. The studio promised to share more information about how fans can purchase tickets to The International 2023 closer to the date of the event.

Florida Mayhem won the first Overwatch League pro-am tournament, but the amateurs were the bigger winners
Yesterday, the first round of Overwatch League play in 2023 concluded with the league’s first-ever pro-am tournament. Seven amateur teams from the North American and EMEA regions qualified for the right to play against the professional Overwatch teams of the west.
I love me some Tier 2 Overwatch (better known as Overwatch Contenders). Some of the most exciting games in all of competitive Overwatch’s history have been Contenders matches. For years now, the competitive Overwatch community has been asking for more recognition and support for the teams and the league that act as the foundation for the Overwatch League proper.
Most Contenders teams are sorely under-resourced. They’re usually made up of teens and young adults who practice and…
