Michael Gove declares war on ‘eyesore’ urban planning blighting towns and cities
HOUSING chief Michael Gove has declared war on ugly buildings blighting towns and cities.
The Levelling Up Secretary is now backing calls to give the public more say on plans for urban developments.
It comes as a report from the Policy Exchange think tank demands broader and deeper public consultation on developments and claims opposition to new housing would be reduced if there was a greater focus on design.
Supporting the report, Mr Gove said: “While the tradition of great architecture continues to flourish, all too frequently the places around it do not.
“How often have we seen what would otherwise be good housing developments let down by poor landscaping or indifferent or insipid urban character?”
The Government is committed to a target of 300,000 new homes a year by the middle of the decade but has so far failed to meet that goal.
Mr Gove said: “Much of the opposition to new housing developments is often grounded in a fear that the quality of the new buildings will be deficient and detrimental to existing neighbourhoods and properties.
“If a general improvement in the standard of design reassures the public that this will not be the case, then they may be less likely to oppose it.”
The report also calls for a so-called School of Place for architects, planners, designers, engineers and consultants to “revive traditional architecture from the annals of obscurity”.

I’m plus-size – I found the best corset from Urban Outfitters to flatter my figure, I bought it in multiple colors
TIGHT, form-fitting tops are all the rage – but finding one that makes you feel confident and comfortable is tricky.
TikTok plus-size fashion queen Remi Bader claimed she finally found the best corset from Urban Outfitters, so she bought it in multiple colors.
Remi’s authentic and hilarious character has gained her the support of over two million followers on TikTok.
The honest creator pokes fun at photoshoots and laughs off unrealistic brand sizing.
But no matter what, Remi’s followers trust her opinion when she says a product is worth purchasing.
She posted a recent video revealing her recent purchase that included two corsets, and she’s obsessed with them.
“Guys. Please run and don’t mother freaking walk to get this,” Remi exclaims.
The plus-size style master smiles as she steps back to show her full outfit.
She’s wearing dark wash flare jeans and a V-cut berry-colored lace corset.
The corset is the $65 Out From Under Venus Dark Romantic Convertible Corset in an XL.
She screams: “I’m sorry! This is stunning, stunning, crazy talk.”
The back is low-cut with two adjustable straps.
Remi loves it so much she pulls out the second one she got in a nude color.
“Hi, Urban. I am coming to every last New York City store to get every color,” Remi says as she pretends to call the store.
She rips off the tag and throws it to the floor. She’s keeping them.
Remi’s eager followers commented on their excitement.
“I’ve never been more influenced Remi,” one amazed shopper said.
Another viewer wrote: “You look sheer perfection in this outfit.”
“I NEED,” one woman commented.
Urban legends and modern myths: Supermassive on how The Dark Pictures Anthology ties together
A few weeks ago, I got the chance to visit Supermassive HQ for a hands-on with The Devil In Me, the fourth game in — and season one finale of — The Dark Pictures Anthology. While I was there, I also had the chance to interview three of the series leads: Tom Heaton, creative director on both The Devil In Me and Man Of Medan; Will Doyle, creative director across the whole Dark Pictures Anthology and director of last year’s entry House Of Ashes; and Dan McDonald, the studio director for the anthology.

Garden Tails: Match And Grow’s Relaxing Gameplay Was Born From Urban Chaos
Among the new releases on Apple Arcade this month is Garden Tails: Match and Grow, a serene match-3 puzzle game where building a garden and filling it with cute little animals is the main goal. In a medium filled with adrenaline-focused video games, this new Apple Arcade experience stands out as a quiet, more relaxing alternative.
To learn more about the game and its relaxing roots, we spoke to Dots’ Sandra Honigman, game designer and lead on Garden Tails, for more insight on where the idea came from and how it tries to keep things light for the player.
We spoke about the game’s attempts to overcome some of the negative stereotypes of the match-3 genre, including a lack of monetization and a few mechanics that help the player solve its puzzles. We also go into length about how living in a major American city birthed the idea of a quiet experience.
