There’s something very unsettling about Park Beyond’s new Valentine’s Day trailer
The upcoming theme park management sim Park Beyond gave us a lovely Valentine’s Day-themed trailer, except, wait a second, this isn’t lovely at all, Oh God. I’m sure Park Beyond will be a wholesome bit of fun – creating outlandish rollercoasters and managing the nuts & bolts of a made-up business is always a good time. But, good grief, there’s something seriously disturbing about its latest trailer.
Lay your eyes on it here, if you dare:
This Valentine’s Day, why not go and play the greatest love story ever told in gaming?
It’s probably no surprise that the most romantic Final Fantasy game was inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, is it? Final Fantasy 8, set with the unenviable task of following on from one of the most successful RPGs ever released, needed to rewrite the series’ DNA. It couldn’t simply retread the ground of Midgar and conjure up some facsimile of Cloud and Sephiroth’s story. No, it had to pull the series up by the roots, and start growing something wholly new.
This post contains spoilers for the events of Final Fantasy 8 (and Romeo & Juliet, but come on, we all know what happens).
Fitting, then, that our story starts in a Garden. That’s the name of the school-cum-mercenary academy in which the main character, Squall, sets out on his journey. In an operatic, cinematic, and didactic opening cutscene, we see Squall engaged in a gunblade battle with erstwhile rival and antagonist, Seifer Almasy. Here, the stage is set: our young, floppy-haired weirdo is the hero, and his blonde, handsome friend is the villain. They wear black and white, but not the way around you expect. Because in the world of Final Fantasy 8, nothing is quite as binary as that.

Overwatch 2’s Valentine’s Day Event, Loverwatch Dating Sim Are Now Live
Overwatch 2 is going all-in on Valentine’s this year, with a new game mode, a Cupid Hanzo skin, new challenges, and a standalone dating sim called Loverwatch, where players will be able to romance Mercy or Genji.
The new V-Day game mode is called Love of Geometry, and will pit two teams of four against each other, with every player as Hanzo in his Cupid skin. As if that wasn’t chaotic enough, the Love of Geometry event will temporarily replace Hanzo’s Storm Arrow with Scatter Arrow, a special arrow that can split and bounce off walls to deal widespread damage. The controversial ability was patched out of Hanzo’s kit back in 2018, deemed too frustrating to players who found themselves in Scatter Arrow’s erratic firing line. Blizzard has also teased a surprise for players who use Hanzo’s Dragonstrike in Love of Geometry.
Loverwatch, Blizzard’s official-but-not-canon dating sim is also live for a limited time to celebrate Valentine’s day. The standalone browser game is surprisingly good, letting players romance either Mercy or Genji, with options to unlock rewards in the main game as well. Loverwatch even hints that Blizzard may have plans for a more in-depth Overwatch dating sim some time in the future.

It was made by Carmen Croxall outside of her rented house in Exeter, Devon.
She previously transformed her home into a giant gingerbread house in November last year.
That design was to celebrate the festive season.
Her new design will certainly set locals’ hearts racing.
She said: “It’s just a big tumbling, cascade of giant love heart sweets.
“I wasn’t going to do a Valentine’s Day display but so many people asked so I thought I might.”
Carmen is not sure how long the Valentine’s Day display will stay up, but with Easter being the next major event, she expects it to stay in place for at least a month.
She has also confirmed that she will be creating a new display to celebrate Easter.
The designer has also created Halloween displays to go alongside the festive and Valentine’s Day designs.
