Pochettino’s bizarre methods include lemons to absorb negative energy, walking on hot coals and rating players’ auras
MAURICIO POCHETTINO is set to return to the Premier League with Chelsea and will bring his bizarre methods of success with him.
The former Tottenham boss has agreed terms to take over at Stamford Bridge with an announcement expected to follow.

Pochettino will replace Frank Lampard next month after the club legend took interim charge following Graham Potter’s sacking.
The Argentine has six years worth of Premier League experience following his time with Southampton and then Spurs.
But it was in North London where Pochettino really made his name and his methods known.
So here, SunSport runs exactly how the former centre-back got the best out of his players.
Fruit loop
Pochettino keeps a tray of lemons in his office, after a friend told him the sour fruit absorbs negative energy.
He told talkSPORT in 2019: “They are there to get rid of bad energy.
“Some people arrive with bad energy and that goes into the lemons. It’s like a barrier, a sponge.
“They take away all the negativity and you can see — it’s unbelievable!
“I change the lemons maybe every ten days but sometimes every three or four days because the lemons become bad, ugly.”

Sense of aura
Pochettino is no different when it comes to using new-school data and analytics to judge players – but he also uses the old-fashioned eye test.
Writing in his book, Brave New World, he said: “I need data and tests, but what most influences my decisions is my ability to see if the right energy is flowing.
“I can foresee things that are going to happen and the associated consequences, or which path each player is going to take.
“I can see it in their auras.”

Coal calling
During his five years with Spurs, Pochettino’s greatest success was leading the club to the Champions League final in 2019.
They were beaten by Liverpool in a result that must have burned – having prepared for it by walking over hot coals.
Pochettino said at the time: “All of them were unbelievably involved. They enjoyed it a lot.
“They were all very brave. And the staff who did it too. Your mind is powerful and only you set your limits.”
He also used the task during his time with Southampton.

Snap out of it
The daring tasks did not stop there as Pochettino also had his players snapping arrows against their throats before the European final.
He explained: “When you see the arrow, you think ‘it’s impossible, how am I going to break the arrow against my throat?’
“You say: ‘No, come on, I am going to kill myself.’ You put it with the sharp tip against your throat but then, bang, you come forward and break the arrow.
“The most important thing is to learn how you can prepare your mind. To be focused. To be proactive. This is the key in football.”
Gacon test
Not all of Pochettino’s methods are madness, others and tried and tested, including relying on fitness.
The manager has been known to favour lots of running in training, using a gruelling intermittent shuttle run called the Gacon test.
Pochettino revealed in his book: “To start with, the players have 45 seconds to cover 150 metres, with 15 seconds to rest.
“In each subsequent 45-second rep, they have to run 6.25 metres further, with the intensity steadily increasing.”
Daz the way to do it
Chelsea stars ought to be careful when weaving amongst the supermarket aisles… Poch is watching.
Or should that be “smelling”?
Pochettino chooses the exact washing powder he wants to be used to wash the first-team kit.
Apparently, he thinks the smell is important for game-day.

Smile for the camera
Danny Rose revealed his former boss recorded everything from training to individual highlights, tracking and tracing his stars.
Per The Telegraph, Rose said: “He’s very thorough, very precise, he’s a disciplinarian. He records training.
“He was the first manager I came across who records training, records gym sessions. There’s no hiding places.
“There was one game, we played Crystal Palace, and I thought I had a good game.
“He called me into his office the next day to analyse the game. I thought there were going to be some good clips.
“He had 26 bad clips of what I did wrong. That’s how he is as a manager.”

Fine by me
Pochettino is lenient when it comes to penalising his squad and chooses not to impose harsh fines on his squad.
But respect is imperative and players will be expected to address co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali with a “hello” or handshake.
Pochettino said in 2016: “In the beginning, there were more rules but today not so many because they share the value.
“Today, we share the rules, on and off the pitch. And the rules become a habit.
“One example: Every morning, we all shake hands with each other to show respect, to show you feel for your team-mates and that you are interested in the people with whom you shake hands.
“This is a small thing which means a lot to create a real team. A lot of things like this are important to settle in the team and show in the team. To be ready to fight for each other.”

Major Retail Players Are Walking Back Their Metaverse Strategies
These reports have raised questions on the metaverse’s ability to yield returns on the investments companies have made in it. Retailers and brands have mainly been using the metaverse to build brand experiences and marketing, but many have yet to report on its conversion rate. In an economic environment where retailers and brands have been attempting to cut costs, experts said that retailers would likely pare down unprofitable areas of their businesses. “One of the biggest challenges was really figuring out the right [key performance indicators] and also just figuring out if there weren’t even implications for many brands when it came to their physical product,” said Melissa Minkow, director of retail strategy at digital consultancy firm CI&T. “It was just such a big, broad, abstract landscape that it seemed there was kind of a lack of direction.”
In recent years, brands saw the metaverse as a means of elevating their virtual experiences, and reaching Gen Z in particular. Walmart launched Universe of Play in September and had mainly marketed it as an immersive virtual toy destination. For Disney, the division in charge of its metaverse strategy was focused on crafting interactive storytelling methods using technologically advanced channels. Retailers of varying sizes were attempting to look for ways to incorporate the metaverse in their strategies. While brands were optimistic about the metaverse, consumers didn’t seem to match their sentiment. Minkow, who authored a recent CI&T report, found that 81% of respondents haven’t made a purchase in the metaverse and 45% said that they don’t ever see themselves shopping in it. Meta initially set a 500,000 monthly active user target for its metaverse offering, Horizon Worlds, by the end of last year but then changed its goal to 280,000, indicating how the company underestimated people’s engagement level with the platform.

Deer Hunter Encounters SKINNED MAN Walking in Louisiana Bayou
Two friends are deer hunting in southern Louisiana. When they eventually meet up, the one hunter is in shock after witnessing a ‘skinned man’ walking through the bayou. Weird account!
The following account was forwarded to me:
“This event happen to me and a friend from out of town that I had invited to go hunting one afternoon. This location was in southern Louisiana in an area with thick woods and a lot of palmettos up to 6 feet in height in some places. The water we had to walk in to get to my deer stands was up to our waist at times, so it was slow moving in the mile we had to walk to our deer stands. My friend wasn’t used to this tough terrain but he kept up and when I got to the first stand which was 15’ off the ground with a ladder to climb. Once he was up I told him I would be by to pick him up about a half hour after dark since I was a half mile past him.
There was a full moon that was reflecting off the water allowing us to hunt a few minutes longer. When it became too dark to see I climb down from my deer stand with my rifle on my shoulder and started walking slowly toward my friend to pick him up. When I was almost to his stand I shined my light up and he wasn’t on the stand. So I shined my light on the ground at the bottom of the stand and there he was leaning back against the tree. What was odd he wouldn’t look my way even after me calling his name. So I walked up to him within a couple feet and asked if he was ready to go. That’s when he finally turned his head and looked toward me and what I saw in his face scared me so bad that I took my rifle off my shoulder, putting it between me and him. His eyes were rolled back in his head and his mouth was wide open just looking at me not saying a word and not answering me. When I was asking what was wrong. He’s looking at me as if he was possessed or something.
At this point I was scared, so I finally slapped his face and he snapped back to himself. I asked if he was ok his only words were let’s get out of here now. So with me not knowing WTF was going on, I made him walk in front of me the whole way back to the truck. We got in and left without saying a word I asked him what happen in the woods and why did he look shocked are possessed and that’s when he started crying and telling me how he was sitting there on the stand when he heard something coming through the water moving palmettos as it was walking. When it got close enough to see what it was he said it was a man that looked like he had been skinned alive! He had no skin at all on him! He said he was so scared that after this thing had passed him he climbs down and hid under the stand against the tree so it wouldn’t see him if it came back. He was in shock when I got to him. That’s why he looked like he did. He was so shaken up and crying that I made him pull over for me to drive.
Well, a week went by and I was talking to my cousin who had gone on a tour at a nearby Indian memorial and they were explaining how this Indian tribe would skin men of the tribe alive and turn them loose in the woods when they had committed a serious crime. My friend who had witnessed this skinned man a week earlier wasn’t from around this area and had no way of knowing this. So what did he see that put him in shock? Was it a ghost of one of these Indians who was skinned alive years ago? I don’t know. I just know the shape my friend was in when I got to him that night in the woods was something I’ll never forget.” OA
