You can play the PS1-style Dead Space Demake right now, for free
We have the dingy corridors of Dead Space (2008), we also have the pretty corridors of Dead Space remake (2023), and now, we can enter the Ishimura a third time with Dead Space Demake (2023, but it looks like 1996.) The fan-made Dead Space Demake takes the horror classic’s oppressive environment and brutal aliens, and recreates them in a PS1-style polygonal aesthetic. It’s out now on itch.io and it’s totally free.

Tired of remakes? Check out this chunky PSX-style Dead Space Demake
Remakes are all the rage these days. It feels like every classic from Resident Evil 4 to Final Fantasy 7 is getting a shiny facelift, reimagining the polygonal blocks from yesteryear and turning them into scarily realistic blockbusters. But, every so often I get an itch. An itch to go back in time to my low-detail-graphics childhood, sitting on the floor, looking up at a squared CRT. And that’s what a good demake is for; specifically, the Dead Space Demake.
Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer gets another Nintendo 64 demake, and it’s great
It appears that Mario fans can’t stop demaking trailers for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination, as they’ve gone and done it again.
Two months ago, we saw the initial teaser trailer receive a partial Nintendo 64 demake by an animator called Coda, showing off the horde of penguins in all their huge, intimidating N64 glory as they unleash their fury on Bowser.
Then, when Illumination shared an all-new trailer for the movie just three weeks ago, featuring Peach, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and even Rainbow Road, YouTuber King Bob Gaming got to work demaking this new trailer. He started with a partial remake, and joked about demaking the whole trailer if the clip received 10k likes… and, well, the likes came flooding in. At the time of writing, his original clip sits at 27k likes.
Callisto Protocol PC stuttering? Try the horror game’s PS1 demake
Callisto Protocol PC stuttering issues have marred the Steam launch of Striking Distance’s Dead Space-like horror game, with users reporting frame rate drops and a slew of performance problems. But as noted in our Callisto Protocol review, it’s still a great game, perhaps made even better when you remove the modern-day, hardware-choking sheen, and play Callisto Protocol as a new demake designed to feel like a PS1 classic.

Dead Space remake has some horror game competition with this demake
The upcoming Dead Space remake wants to revitalise and bring the classic horror game to the modern era of gaming, but what if we took it back into the 90s instead? This is exactly what game designer Fraser Brumley is doing, as they’re remaking Dead Space in their own way, by channelling the likes of the early Silent Hill and Resident Evil games.
