A pair of police officers in England recently experienced the haunting of a lifetime, when a phantom train complete with whistle rumbled past their station. A little digging around revealed that railroad tracks had once run right by that location, so the officers posted on social media to find out if anyone else on the former train route had experienced similar hauntings. As in most spook (or spook train) cases, it raises the question Are Paranormal Cases Ever Really Concluded? If TV shows are to be believed—and they are not—wrapping up a haunting can be done in a single night with some basic investigation and a team meeting afterwards. Unfortunately a rushed approach often results in confirmation bias, the nemesis of any decent researcher. (CM)
