When told no, he assaulted the pair, stole Dave’s Kia Sportage and then ran him over.
He suffered catastrophic injuries and died in hospital.
Ryan was left with a serious brain injury in Sheffield last September.
Richards was convicted of murder last month.
He refused to leave his cell for sentencing at the city’s crown court yesterday and was jailed for a minimum of 26 years.
Judge Jeremy Richardson KC said: “I regard the refusal of the defendant to attend court to be an act of cowardice.
“His arrogance is also demonstrated by this conduct.
“It is plain the defendant is replete with habitual violence.
“It is deeply ingrained.
“He is, in my judgment, an exceptionally volatile and dangerous man.
“I have my doubts whether it will ever be safe to release him.”
Dave’s wife of 42 years, who was not named, said: “The fact he went fishing and never came home has caused such a shock that I cannot accept it.”
