We’re still waiting for the “October 31st” Congressionally-mandated DoD/ODNI UAF/UAP report. Micah Hanks helpfully summarizes the Senate/House compromise FY 2023 National Defense Authorization Act document, in particular noting its UAP Provisions. Most appreciated, as the referenced H.R. 7776 “weighs in” at 4408 pages —and the Senate Armed Services Summary is too abbreviated regarding our particular interest. An independent view of the current overall situation can be found in Leonard David’s UFOs 101: Hype, Uproar, Disinformation And Mystery: ‘Here We Go Again.’ Pennsylvania State History prof Greg Eghigian’s course sounds interesting, and perhaps it will be updated and offered again. Spamming Us from Space: SETI, Flying saucers and the Galactic Internet makes several cogent points, but the author and his sources might benefit from a stronger grasp of ufological history. The article’s theories broad-brush themes like how “the classic circular saucers of the 1950s finally became rival flying triangles during the 1980s.” This practice facilitates high-level psychological explanations of the UFO phenomenon. But that example comes at the expense of those “messy” factual details about non-circular saucers’ and “triangles” pre-1980s prominence. A sound understanding of the complexities of what surely includes some kind of external phenomenon, whatever its mediation in the human mind—and media—is imperative. And for that UFOs and Government by Michael Swords and Robert Powell, eds., from Anomalist Books, remains our best recommendation. (WM)
