As two of the most important Black artists to ever grace recorded music, Dionne Warwick (one of the best-selling female acts of all time) and Gladys Knight (the crowned ‘Empress of Soul’) not only boast six decades of impact respectively but they also own two of the most recognized names, voices, and faces in their field.
Despite the aforementioned, earlier this week – during one of Serena Williams‘ farewell tennis matches at the US Open – Twitter went up in flames when analyst/announcer Chanda Rubin misidentified Warwick as Knight (who were both in attendance at the star-studded showing).
Yet while the negative criticism poured in heavily for Rubin, Dionne and Gladys seemed to be the least offended by the mixup.

Unacceptable, from both of them. pic.twitter.com/kVSTGRslPs

As seen in the video above, Chanda called out Gladys’ name while Dionne was showing on the screen. However, according to the commentator, she was referring to who she was seeing in the stands, not the monitor.
“Too bad I was initially looking at the court (where Auntie Gladys was in the stands) and not our program monitor that showed Ms. Dionne…” Rubin posted on Twitter following the match. “Mistake was immediately corrected.”
Either way, the music legends laughed off the misidentification. Look below to see their pleasant Twitter comments.
Hi, I’m Gladys Knight… and instead of taking that midnight train to Georgia, I won’t walk on by but will say a little prayer for you 😂😐

Dionne and I have been sisters for a long time and I hope she is as honored to be mistaken for me as I would be her. I’m sure it was an honest mistake. It was a blessing to be in the house to see Serena’s greatness.
