A GIRL died after falling over 100 feet while hiking at a popular trail.
The 10-year-old girl was visiting the Garden of the Gods trail at the Shawnee National Forest with her family on Friday afternoon.

The Jackson County Coroner Dr Tom Kupferer said the girl fell about 100 feet during the hike.
She was flown to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The girl was identified by local news outlets as Everly Montgomery of Odon, Indiana.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of our elementary teacher, Mrs. Montgomery, whose daughter Everly passed away following a tragic accident on Friday,” read a statement by North Daviess Community Schools.

“Everly was an incoming fourth-grader at ND Elementary.
“Please continue to pray for comfort and peace for her entire family.”
An obituary for Everly describes her as a member of the Odon Christian Church, who was also part of volleyball and softball teams, cross-country club and Girls Who Code.
“The family loved attending her athletic events together. When not playing sports, Everly loved riding her bicycle to the local library.

“She was a bright, inquisitive young girl and an avid reader. Her smile and enthusiasm could brighten anyone’s day.”
She is survived by her parents, a brother and her grandparents.
Funeral services are set to take place at the Odon Christian Church.
