Britney Spears and Elton John have blasted straight into the upper echelon of the Billboard Hot 100 with their new collaborative single, ‘Hold Me Closer.’
Full story below…
The track, which re-works and re-imagines John’s 1971 classic ‘Tiny Dancer,’ has launched at #6 on the coveted count.
Delivering on predictions, it managed the feat with the following first-week US stats:
- 11.1 million streams
- 20.9 million all-format radio impressions
- 48,000 digital downloads
The charting is significant on a number of fronts.
For Spears, the track becomes her 14th top ten and her first Hot 100 top 10 single in a decade; her last being the #3-peaking ‘Scream & Shout’ with will.i.am in 2012.
With Spears co-billed as the lead act on the track, it serves as her first top 10 as a leader since 2011’s ‘I Wanna Go’ – which peaked at #7.
In another major development, it sees the diva join the exclusive club of female artists with top 10s in four consecutive decades. More on that soon.
Meanwhile for John, ‘Hold Me Closer’ becomes his 29th top 10 on the Hot 100, the third most amongst males (following Drake and Michael Jackson). The legend’s last top 10 arrived this year in the form of Dua Lipa collaboration ‘Cold Heart.’
Congrats across the board!
