The nearly 30,000-member American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is going Big Time into UFOs as of Thursday. The air safety issue is of course of primary concern, per Bryan Bender. But former F/A-18 pilot and current co-chair of AIAA’s Unidentified Aerospace Phenomena Community of Interest Ryan Graves “maintains that the ultimate intent is to learn more about those UFOs that are truly unexplained,” says Bryan. Bryan mentions the evolving context of governmental actions around this subject, noting Pentagon spokesperson Susan Gough’s statement that the Pentagon’s planning to submit a Congressionally-mandate report on—perhaps fittingly?—Halloween. Ufologist researcher-archivist-author-presenter David Marler also comments on what this all means for ufology. Bryan terms David the “executive director of the newly formed National UFO Historical Records Center in Albuquerque, N.M., the largest U.S.-based repository of related archives.” David just received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the International UFO Congress. There he presented his mission “to collect, preserve, and provide historical UFO materials to the general public and interested parties.” Considerable implementation planning on this project has already taken place, with key ufologists in support.
