A year after making history for becoming the first artist in the history of recorded music to see his name attached to 5 Diamond-certified songs, Bruno Mars recently learned the Recording Industry Association of America has similarly christened another one of his hits.
Details inside.
On the 10th anniversary of the October 1 release of Mars’ 2012 Hot 100 #1 hit ‘Locked Out of Heaven,’ the RIAA took to press to reveal the ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ bop had ascended to Diamond status – meaning it’s sold the equivalent of 10 million copies in the United States alone.
It’s only the 87th song in history (among all artists) to be certified as such.
The sales update comes as a milestone for the organization as it’s the first time over its 70-year history the honor has been bestowed six times to songs attached to one act. His previous hits to be certified as high or higher are ‘That’s What I Like,’ ‘When I Was Your Man,’ ‘Grenade,’ ‘Just the Way You Are,’ and ‘Uptown Funk.’
Bringing his overall single sales total to 91.5 million in the U.S., Bruno is now the third best-selling male singer in digital music history following Canadian hitmakers Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.
