The Witcher 3’s latest patch improves overall stability and performance, makes other fixes
CD Projekt Red has released the 4.02 update for The Witcher 3 next-gen, improving the overall stability of the game.
One of the main takeaways from the patch for PC is that it improves CPU cors utilization in the DX 12 version.
Other PC-specific fixes include the restoration of horizon-based Ambient Occlusion. If you previously turned Ambient Occlusion off, you should do so again. You can find it in Options → Video → Graphics.

Diablo 3’s Game-Changing Season 28 Begins February 24
Diablo III Season 28 is coming on February 24, and it will forever change how Blizzard’s critically-acclaimed ARPG is played thanks to a new account-wide progression system.
As previously detailed by Blizzard, the star of Season 28 is the Altar of Rites, an account-wide progression system that will allow players to unlock some seriously game-changing perks and legendary potions for the entirety of the season across all characters. These perks are unlocked via a talent tree where each subsequent perk requires increasingly rare items and materials to be sacrificed at the Altar of Rites.

These perks aren’t just simple stat boosts. They can range from items no longer having level requirements to huge flat damage or movement speed bonuses. There’s even a perk that makes it so pets can pick up and salvage items, Torchlight-style. Unlocking all 26 perks and three legendary potions via the Altar of Rites will reward players with the Wings of Terror cosmetic, letting them sport the look of the Lord of Terror himself.

The Witcher 3’s latest patch improves performance on console, but makes it worse on PC
A recent update for The Witcher 3 was supposed to improve performance on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, but the latter is actually running worse.
The Witcher 3 saw the arrival of patch 4.01 earlier this week, noting that it “improves the overall stability and performance of the game on next-gen consoles and PC, and brings various fixes to all platforms.” Only problem is, as reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, that just isn’t the case on PC. Upon booting up the game to test out the new settings, RPS found that if you don’t have ray-tracing enabled, the game actually runs worse than before.
One of the PC-specific additions added with this update is that a performance mode for ray-traced global illumination is now available as an option, hardware permitted. This setting “improves frame rate by prioritising performance over range and precision,” which apparently works well. But without any RT settings turned on, frame rates can dip lower than 25fps, making for a not particularly smooth experience (as demonstrated here).
