PlayWay’s latest sim game appears to be Barbie Horse Adventures
If you recognise the name PlayWay it is because PlayWay publishes most of the [Noun] Simulator games, often but not always involving being a mechanic of some kind. Today, though, I’m excited to tell you that with their next game, developed by PlayWay subsidiary Games Incubator, they’re branching out into the long-neglected magical horsegirl genre with My Horse: Bonded Spirits.
Google is shutting down Fitbit Challenges and Adventures today
Fitbit challenges, adventures and open groups join the Google graveyard today
In February, Fitbit announced it would sunset open groups, adventures and challenges on March 27th. That day has arrived, and if you didn’t download your trophies before today, I’m sorry to say you missed your chance to do so. Last month, Fitbit said it was removing those features due to “limited use.”
If you’re a longtime Fitbit user, the demise of open groups, adventures and challenges is likely to come as a shame, particularly since two of them made the platform more social and were widely copied by the company’s competitors. Challenges, for instance, made it possible to motivate your friends and family to hit their daily step count. Meanwhile, open groups were a great way to meet other like-minded users, and there were some groups with hundreds of thousands of active users. Now those are gone.

DC Returns to the World of Injustice in Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent
Have You Played… The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit?
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a playable teaser released to promote Life Is Strange 2, the first episode of which followed on three months after this surprise p.t. dropped during E3 2018. Not to be confused with Silent Hills P.T. (it’s like… the exact opposite of that), Captain Spirit is free to play, takes two to three hours to complete, and manages to perfectly encapsulate the Life Is Strange experience without giving anything away about the main (read: paid-for) games in the series. It also features possibly my favourite LIS protagonist in adorable wannabe superhero Chris, which is quite a high bar to clear, considering how much time I spend banging on about what great characters Chloe and Sean are.
The Rivian R1S is an impressive electric SUV meant for adventures
Rivian impressed car reviewers (and us) with its R1T pickup, and its R1S electric SUV is no different. The slightly smaller vehicle continues the automotive startup’s trend of building no-compromise electric vehicles meant for outdoor adventure.
Living the life of an extreme camper, kayaker or cyclist doesn’t come cheap: The R1S has a bank-busting price tag starting at $78,000. It might not be the most efficient EV on the market, but it has a healthy range of up to 316 miles, which should be enough to satisfy those looking to go outdoors with a vehicle that’s solidly built. The R1S also now ships with a new Camp Mode feature that levels the cabin so overnight stays can be a bit more comfortable.
Designing a desirable EV is not something Rivian has struggled with to date, though: its real issue is mass-producing cars to keep up with orders. Watch the video below for the full story.
70 New Text Adventures Written For 28th Annual ‘Interactive Fiction Competition’
With wacky titles like “Lazy Wizard’s Guide” and “Elvish for Goodbye,” each game offers its own original take on the classic choice-based text adventures, sometimes augumented with ambient background noises and even music. Each of the 70 games has some kind of fanciful “cover art” — one even generated using OpenAI’s image-generating tool DALL-E.
And you’re invited to help judge the games! Just create an account, and then play and rate at least five of the game by November 15…
Slashdot first covered the competition back in 2004. (And in 2006, Slashdot editor Hemos called interactive fiction games “some of the best I’ve ever played.”) But this year the competition raised over $10,000 (so far!) to be distributed among the top two-thirds of entries, with the first-place finisher receiving $489 and each subsequent finisher receiving a little less, with the lowest-finishing prize recipient awarded $10. (And in addition, top entrants are each allowed to choose one prize from a pool of donations.)
Game on!
