American McGee is still trying to make Alice: Asylum a reality
American McGee is still trying to turn his theoretical Alice: Asylum into a reality. The last game in his dark action-platformer series, Alice: Madness Returns, released more than ten years ago, and since then McGee has been funding development through a Patreon which, at the time of writing, currently has 3,192 paying members. In 2021, McGee released the first draft of a script, and now he’s back with a 414-page design bible, the announcement of a partner studio, and an odd plea to EA.

The RPS Selection Box: Alice Bee’s bonus games of the year 2022
I didn’t play as many games as I wanted to this year – but then I say that every single year and will probably continue to do so until the end of time (I assume at some point my consciousness will be uploaded into an immortal robot that will exist until the heat death of the universe, and that robot will still be doing previews). Like everyone else who has written their selection box, my top picks made it onto the Advent Calendar this year. But some didn’t! Here are but a three of them.
Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With an Alice, hand in hand
I find myself alone. I am the only person left in the treehouse right now. I think it’s the first time this has happened. It is interesting to consider that I could try to wipe the website, delete loads of articles, do something to burn down my job. I don’t particularly want to, but the coiled potential to do it exists, because I am unsupervised. There is no other member of staff between me and all of you. The great filter is removed. Any typos are on purpose. How you doin’?
This gives me a great opportunity, because I get to have, in a sense, the final word on RPS this year. There are a lot of posts coming up (if we include the Advent Calendar posts that have already gone, we have 50-ish bits of hashtag seasonal hashtag content this year, which I think is the most I’ve had to schedule for a Christmas break yet), but almost everything after this point is a scheduled post, made of time travel words written days or weeks ago. I’m live and uncensored, baby. I’m going to fire up Among Trees. Let’s go and be alone together. But don’t worry, I take my responisbility seriously, so I’ll make sure the final word is a joke.
‘Alice, Darling’ trailer: It’s tears and fears with this new psychological thriller
Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) returns to the big screen, this time starring as Alice in the psychological thriller Alice, Darling.
From director Mary Nighy, the tense trailer features a nervous Alice trapped between a rock and a hard place: Lying to her abusive boyfriend, Simon, or skipping out on a dear friend’s birthday getaway. Choosing to lie skittishly to her narcissist partner, Alice retreats on the friend-cation under the guise of an impromptu work trip.
Once Alice’s lies begin to unravel and Simon’s separation from his girlfriend drives him to the brink of instability, Alice must decide if her lifelong bond with her girlfriends can be thrown away for Simon’s overwhelming presence, or if she will decide to leave once and for all. With all of the gaslighting, hair-pulling, and hyperventilating, my nerves are skyrocketing waiting for the explosive premier.
The drama will also star Kaniehtiio Horn, Charlie Carrick, and Wunmi Mosaku.
Alice, Darling hits L.A. theaters on Dec. 30 and AMC theaters nationally on Jan. 20, 2023.

Have You Played… American McGee’s Alice?
Boy, American McGee’s Alice really sticks in the mind of a ten-year-old, doesn’t it? It resides in the Goldilocks Zone of creepiness: just the right amount of creepy to be considered cool, and not quite creepy enough to cause nightmares. There were quite a few things I loved about the game, but none more than that deliciously haunting opening theme that played in the main menu.
