Following backlash, Ark remaster is now more expensive, old servers still being shutdown
After some fan backlash over how the Ark: Survival Evolved remaster is being handled, Studio Wildcard has responded by… making it more expensive.
Last week, Studio Wildcard made a couple of big announcements related to the Ark series. The first one, that Ark 2 has been delayed into 2024, is completely unsurprising, as we have seen literally nothing of the game so far. The second one was a little more surprising though, as the studio announced that Ark: Survival Evolved is getting a big remaster called Ark: Survival Ascended, as well as the fact that Survival Evolved’s servers are getting shut down, meaning players would have to buy the remaster. Fans didn’t like this much, so obviously Studio Wildcard’s solution was to make it more expensive.
To further explain, in the announcement Wildcard revealed that if you want to play the game on Xbox or PC, you had to buy a bundle which also contains the upcoming second game for $49.99 (on PS5 you could buy just Survival Ascended for $39.99). On top of that players would have to buy upcoming expansion packs. Now, in a new post from Wildcard, apparently none of this is the case.
Ark: Survival Ascended will be sold without Ark 2 after backlash, but will still cost $60
The developers of Ark have revised their plans for the release of Ark: Survival Ascended, an Unreal Engine 5 enhanced edition of their dinosaur survival sim. It will now cost $60 rather than the previously planned $50, is no longer bundled together with ARK 2, and will instead include the remasters of Ark: Survival Evolved’s several expansions – although most won’t be available at launch.
Studio Wildcard also went into more detail as to why this upgraded version is no longer a free update, and why they feel it’s necessary to shut down Ark: Survival Evolved’s official servers.

Discord Reverses Privacy Policy Changes After AI Backlash
When Discord launched its new AI-assisted version of chatbot Clyde, users also noticed that the company had deleted a clause from its privacy policy that said it wouldn’t store the contents of calls, streams, or channels. Discord has now reinstated that clause, as well as clarifying how its AI tools would use and store data.
As reported by Gizmodo, the changes to Discord’s privacy policy left users unsettled, especially when paired with the launch of new AI tools including an improved version of Clyde that uses OpenAI, a new tool to create easy conversation summaries, and the introduction of AutoMod AI. The changes were only live for one day, after which Discord reinstated the original privacy policy.
The policy now reads: “We generally do not store the contents of video or voice calls or channels. If we were to change that in the future (for example, to facilitate content moderation), we would disclose that to you in advance. We also don’t store streaming content when you share your screen, but we do retain the thumbnail cover image for the stream for a short period of time.”
