Gmail Is Adding a Blue Checkmark To Better Verify Senders
Google is now making the feature much more explicit by adding a “checkmark icon for senders that have adopted BIMI” to more clearly “help users identify messages from legitimate senders versus impersonators.” The company has shared what this will look like on desktop web. The timing of this launch is somewhat amusing, given the rest of the tech landscape. The icon is a blue seal with a white checkmark in the middle, with users able to hover over it on the web. For example, Google’s will say: “This sender of this email has verified that they own google.com and the logo in the profile image. Learn more.” The feature is rolling out today and will be available over the coming days and weeks. It’ll be available to all Google Workspace customers, legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers, and users with personal Google Accounts.

What’s better: heals harming the undead, or voice chat?
Last time, you decided that cool spellcasting gestures are better than seizing control of a rolling boulder trap. I assume you have very cool gestures to conjure a magical meteor or other big rock on command. Maybe a dramatic dragging-down (or up) with two tensed arms and clawed hands? Very cool. As we continue our scientific process, this week I ask you to choose between two things which combine help and hurt. What’s better: heals harming the undead, or voice chat?

Our pick: Embark breed + health test
(opens in a new tab)
Why we like it
An official research partner of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Embark’s breed + health test kit uses a simple cheek swab to screen for 350 breeds (plus 230,000 genetic markers) and sniff out more than 230 possible health risks, including drug sensitivities. Once you ship off your dog’s sample in the included pre-paid mailer, results will arrive via email in two to four weeks with a breed and family tree breakdown, insights into specific physical traits, and a list of actionable tips if anything looks off health-wise. (It’s not a replacement for regular vet checkups, but it’s a good proactive step to keep tabs on your dog’s long-term health.)
You’ll also receive access to an online relative finder, which can tell you if any of your dog’s long-lost siblings or puppies live nearby — an especially neat feature for rescue dog owners.
This test is an upgrade from Embark’s standard Breed ID kit, which only looks at breed composition, and it’s worth the splurge. It typically retails for $199, but Amazon has it on sale for $159 (or $40 off) during its Pet Day event — a discount that’s matched on chewy.com and the Embark website with the coupon code BESTDOG. (You can use that same code to snag a two-pack there for $298, or $100 off.)

Our pick: Basepaws breed + health cat DNA test
(opens in a new tab)
Why we like it
The Shark Tank-famous Basepaws breed + health cat DNA test relies on a teeth and gum swab to check for 21 different breeds, four breed regions, 25 genetic traits (like coat pattern/length and body size), and 65 health markers associated with 43 feline diseases. It also throws in a free oral health report, which is huge considering 50 to 90 percent of all adult cats suffer from some form of dental disease, and treatment can be expensive. (Again, it’s not an excuse to skip annual vet appointments, but it’s nice to cover your bases.) Your results get emailed to you in four to six weeks.
Amazon has it on sale for $119 during its Pet Day event, but you can get it for $10 cheaper on the Basepaws website if you enter the coupon code CATMOMS at checkout — that’s a total savings of $50, or 31%.

Reddit reworks sharing from its apps and the look of link embeds for better social reach
Reddit’s blog post today admits it “didn’t make it easy” to share content like cool conversations and memes to other social platforms — but now it’s finally doing something about it. Reddit is enhancing link embeds for messaging apps and adding more sharing functions like sharing directly to Instagram stories right from Reddit’s app.
If you’ve ever tried to share a Reddit link from the official app on, for instance, iMessage on an iPhone, you might recall it not having a particularly content-rich preview. Now the company is enhancing it with a more robust visual preview of the content, its subreddit name, and the number of upvotes and comments it has.
