Cassette Beasts, A New Pokemon-Like, Is Discounted On Launch Day
The new indie monster-catching RPG Cassette Beasts launched today for PC and console, and for a limited time, you can grab the Steam version for 20% off at Fanatical. This special launch week deal lasts until May 3 and applies to the standard and deluxe editions of the game. It’s also a much better offer than Steam’s own 10%-off launch price.
Thanks to this deal, the Cassette Beasts standard edition is down to $16 (normally $20), while the deluxe version is down to just $24.45 (normally $36). You’re actually saving around 33% on the deluxe edition, which is once again more than Steam’s 20% discount. The deluxe edition includes a bonus digital artbook, soundtrack, and DLC costume pack. Purchasing either version of the game also grants you a bonus 5% off coupon you can apply towards a future Fanatical purchase.
Cassette Beasts review: dropping the mic on the Pokémon-like
My name is Katharine and I’m a reformed Pokéaddict. I thought I’d get that out there right at the start, because you can’t really talk about Cassette Beasts without talking a bit about Pokémon. Admittedly, the idea of an open world Pokémon-like might have lost some of its shine now that the actual Pokémon games have finally gone and done it themselves with last year’s Scarlet and Violet releases, but Cassette Beasts, the debut game from UK micro team Bytten Studio, is banging a different kind of drum to Nintendo’s primo monster catcher.

Pokemon-like Cassette Beasts is dropping day one on Game Pass April 26
Casstte Beasts is dropping on April 26, available from Game Pass for PC from day one. Later this Spring, during its console release on Switch and Xbox, it’ll also be available on Xbox Game Pass simultaneously.
The game, a Pokemon-like monster fusing RPG, is all about collecting and battling a selection of unique monsters; all of which can be combined to create distinct and powerful companions.
As you may have already figured out, Cassette Beasts has a world all built around cassette tapes. Monsters you encounter are recorded onto your tape, with a Pokemon third generation gameplay style. It looks pretty dope, and distinct enough from its inspirations to grab your interest.
Monster-taming RPG Cassette Beasts is launching on PC and Game Pass next month
Are you a fan of RPGs where you make friends with adorable critters? Not a fan of trapping said friends into small balls, only letting them out to fight gangs and other Godlike creatures? Well, Cassette Beasts might be the game for you. It’s a Pokémon-like where you’ll still be beating up wildlife creatures in turn-based combat, but rather than capturing them, you record their likeness on the titular tapes and then transform into those same street cone-wearing crabs and metal-clad wolves. It looks like an energetic, nostalgic romp, and it’s coming to PC and Game Pass on April 26th.

Cassette Beasts is monster-collecting RPG that’s more Power Rangers than Pokémon
At this year’s Gamescom I got hands-on with Bytten Studio’s Cassette Beasts, an upcoming monster-taming open world RPG in the vein of Pokémon, which is far more interesting to me than the basic concept of Pokémon. That’s because you’re able to fuse together any monsters you ‘catch’, but moreso because it’s a monster collectathon where you become the monster, essentially fusing yourself with bomb dogs and hermit crabs with traffic cone-homes.
I like the way the game does away with the overdone shonen story of wanting to become the very best there ever was, and instead puts the spotlight on its cast of characters and the relationships you form with your buds. It’s looking mighty promising.
